Thank you message from the Head of the Lowitja Foundation, Deb Edwards, niece of the late Dr Lowitja O'Donoghue.

And a thank you from us at Lowitja Institute to all of those who supported and attended the exhibition. ❤️

'Closing day at LOWITJA - A Life of Leadership! My heart felt thanks to everyone who came to visit our inaugural exhibition over the past & weeks here at the Kerry Packer Civic Gallery here on Kaurna Country.

Thank you to the Bob Hawke Prime Ministerial Centre, UniSA, the Australian Government, the Government of South Australia, Adelaide Airport Limited and The Healing Foundation - and to our curatorial assistant my daughter Ruby, and my niece Mahailia for her work as our gallery attendant.

Thanks to the media outlets across Australia who supported us and to our publicist Erin Jameson for her tireless work.
Big thanks to Pat Caruso(DBVC) and the team at We Create Print Deliver for their exceptional creative talents, and to Lauren Ann Hillman, Chris, Clare and all at Channel 44 Adelaide for the creative production of our launch.

Mostly though, thank you to everyone who came in and shared their stories of Lowitja and those who came in willing to learn so that they can move forward and undertake positive actions with authenticity and strong intent. We thank you for listening and learning.

It certainly has been an honour and a privilege for us to create this work.
We love you Auntie Lowitja, always and forever in our hearts. Never forgotten 🙏🏾'

Hepatitis disproportionately affects Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

Low awareness, misinformation, structural racism, and stigma continue to create barriers to the supports and services our communities need.

The GLOWS Program (Guiding Local Opportunities for Wellbeing Solutions) supports ACCOs to design and deliver local, culturally safe health projects — including hepatitis prevention, screening, and treatment.

Through GLOWS, Lowitja Institute invests in community-led action grounded in culture, lived experience, and local knowledge to reduce transmission and work towards the elimination of HIV and viral hepatitis in our communities.

Hepatitis is preventable. With First Nations-led solutions, we can tackle a disease that more than 300 million people are living with around the world.

As part of our Lowitja Journal webinar series, we hosted a discussion exploring the world of peer review of Indigenous health scholarly works. From the role and benefits of reviewing, to key steps in the process and specific cultural considerations.

Professor Karen Adams and Professor Catherine Chamberlain shared their expertise, covering the complexities Indigenous and non-Indigenous reviewers navigate at the cultural interface, and offering practical examples of helpful (and not so helpful) reviews.

Whether you’re new to peer review or have been reviewing for some time, this session is a valuable resource.

Last week, Lowitja Institute staff celebrated NAIDOC Week with our families, friends and communities right across the country.

We feel so lucky to be part of a community 65,000 years strong, grounded in deep connections to Country, culture and each other.

This year’s theme is all about honouring and empowering our next generation and there’s nothing more powerful than showing our young ones the strength, pride and joy of our culture in action.

This NAIDOC Week, we’re shining a spotlight on the winners of the Tarrn-doon-nonin Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Research Project Award at the Lowitja Institute Awards – the incredible team at Marninwarntikura Women's Resource Centre (MWRC). 💛🖤❤️

Based on Bunuba Country in the Kimberley, MWRC works to uphold the safety, strength, and leadership of women and children across the Fitzroy Valley, delivering community-led, culturally grounded responses to family and domestic violence, intergenerational trauma, and social inequity.

This NAIDOC Week, we acknowledge and celebrate all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Controlled Organisations that are leading positive change for their communities.

ACCOs like MWRC support the strength and resilience of their communities, nurturing children and young people to grow strong in culture, resilient, and ready to become the next generation.
