The main objectives of this scoping review were to ascertain the type and range of available evidence detailing diabetes-related foot interventions for Indigenous peoples from high-income countries and their reporting alignment with the CONSIDER statement.

The review found a small number of studies describing interventions that improved diabetes foot disease (DFD) outcomes and reduced the impact of DFD for Indigenous peoples. Authentic engagement with Indigenous communities in the research and development of DFD interventions was rare. It is recommended that, for future projects, researchers focus on collaborating with local Indigenous peoples to weave Indigenous knowledge and priorities into developing comprehensive DFD interventions.

Congratulations to Nairm Marr Djambana, which has received an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Grant for its project entitled: 'Co-creating an Evidence-based Evaluation Framework for an Aboriginal gathering place in South-Eastern Melbourne/Kulin Nations, Narrm, Victoria'.

Rigorous evaluation is critical for enabling continuous quality improvement, funding sustainability, and, more broadly, to disseminate effective community-led strategies for improving social and emotional wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. This grant will support the organisation to bring together key stakeholders and partners to develop a research plan and prepare a major grant proposal to co-create and pilot an evidenced-based evaluation framework.

Lowitja Institute is proud to host the Knowledge Translation (KT) Summit 2026, an online gathering that brings together policymakers, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, communities, and researchers to share knowledge, showcase innovation, and influence systems change.

For generations, our communities have demonstrated that self-determined, strengths-based, and community-led models deliver the most effective and sustainable outcomes. This KT Summit will hold space for some of these stories to be shared, led by Lowitja Institute Major Grant recipients. The impact of these projects demonstrates how direct funding, and the genuine sharing of resources and power with the community controlled sector, translates into meaningful and lasting change for communities and how self-determination is a driver for good health.

Lowitja Institute invites you to come together to listen deeply to these stories, recognising that policymaking must be grounded in Indigenous ways of knowing, being, and doing, with self-determination as a core principle for achieving holistic health and wellbeing outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Speakers will be announced in the coming weeks.

National and global resistance opposes the criminalisation and punitive punishment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children with complex needs, including harmful incarceration practices of children as young as ten years of age. The aim of this scoping review was to understand the available evidence regarding culturally responsive diversion programs for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children.

To resist the incarceration of Indigenous Australian children with complex needs, funding, policy directions and public health responses need to be aimed at further development and delivery of culturally responsive diversion approaches, which have been shown in this scoping review to improve quality of life, holistic health and wellbeing, thus reducing offending behaviour.

This study sought to explore health practitioners’ knowledge, attitudes and practices in delivering culturally safe care to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander infants and families in neonatal intensive care units (NICUs).

Despite understanding the principles and importance of culturally safe care in practice, health practitioners have reported a lack of support and confidence in practicing culturally safe care with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander infants and their families in NICUs. This study has identified key recommendations to help improve health practitioners’ knowledge of culturally safe care and its implementation to practice.
