New NDIS laws determine what we can and can’t fund. Things we can fund are called NDIS supports. NDIS supports are the services, items and equipment that can be funded by the NDIS. You can find out more about what we do and don’t fund on our website.

Participants can ask for an NDIS support to be replaced with certain non-NDIS supports. These are called replacement supports.

The replacement supports must be from the replacement support list: https://ow.ly/VtjC50TGqcY

To get a replacement support approved, participants need to show that the replacement support will lead to the same or better outcomes, and be the same or better value for money, compared to the current NDIS support.

Participants must follow this process before purchasing the replacement support. It cannot be done after purchasing a non-NDIS support.

We have published information on replacement supports, how to apply and the application form on our website: https://ow.ly/VtjC50TGqcY

From 3 October 2024 there will be a new definition of NDIS supports. This means clearer guidelines on what your NDIS funding can and cannot be spent on. This change is based on current guidance and will affect all participants.

What’s changing:
• You can only use your NDIS funding for things that are defined as NDIS supports.
• The new definition will include both what you can and cannot use your funding for.

We're using feedback from recent public consultations and sector engagement to finalise the new rule.
We will share all the details about the new rule before it starts on 3 October.

The NDIA and our Local Area Coordinators check in with participants around 2 months before the reassessment date outlined in your plan.

We will contact you to organise this check in, and let you know how you can prepare.

If things are going well and no changes are needed, we may renew your existing plan for a longer duration.

If your circumstances have changed we will work with you to review your NDIS plan at a follow up meeting.

After your check in, we’ll send you a summary of what we talked about and start any next steps we’ve agreed upon.

There have been changes made to the NDIS legislation, which means there will be changes to how the NDIS works.

The purpose of the NDIS is not changing. The NDIS will continue to provide participants with disability-related supports.

These changes are about delivering clarity, more flexibility and better outcomes for participants, families and carers.

Some of these changes will start on 3 October. Others will take longer because we will co-design them with the disability community.
