A Closer Look at Speech and Language Interventions 🗣️

While a speech pathologist is trained at identifying communication strengths, weaknesses, and clinical areas to work on, you should be at the centre and in control of decision making when it comes to the therapy goals and strategies.

Goal Setting ☀️
When starting ongoing intervention sessions, your speech pathologist collaborates with you on two general points:

1️⃣ What your priorities are, what matters to you, and what is important for you to achieve
2️⃣ What the evidence is on how to work on your communication progress

When you feel you have met your communication goals, your speech pathologist can help you with transitions from regular therapy sessions to monitoring-focused consultations, to make sure you maintain the progress and your confidence in your capacities, that you are able to meet your communication needs without specialised support.

If your child is experiencing difficulties with speech, language, or communication, early support can make all the difference. Our Paediatric Speech Pathologist at PACE Health Management work with children and families to build confidence and communication skills for life.

Paediatric Psychology FAQ - “I’m nervous! What does an initial psychology session look like?”

That’s totally normal... lots of people feel unsure before their first session. The first session is all about getting to know you. Your psychologist might ask about:

❓What’s been going on lately (at school, home, with friends)
❓What you're finding hard — or what brought you in
❓What your goals are (even if you're not sure yet — we’ll figure it out together)

There are no right or wrong answers. It’s not an exam. It’s a safe space to talk, at your own pace.

In some sessions, the psychologist might speak with the parent first, or together with the young person. We’ll talk about:

🌟 Strengths and concerns
🌟 What’s happening day-to-day
🌟 Any background info (e.g. school reports, past assessments, behaviours at home)

If your child is experiencing challenges with behaviour, emotions, or development, our Paediatric Psychology team at PACE Health Management is here to help. Early support can make a lasting difference in your child’s life.

How to Avoid Muscle Strains & Injuries Whilst Playing Weekend Sports! ⚽🏀

Weekend sports are a great way to stay active and have fun, but the intensity of a match or game can sometimes lead to muscle strains or injuries. Whether you're playing soccer, basketball, tennis, or running, follow these tips to stay injury-free and enjoy your weekend sports to the fullest!

Before You Hit the Field or Court
✅ Warm up properly: A good warm-up prepares your body for the physical activity ahead. Dynamic stretches (leg swings, arm circles) are great for activating muscles.
✅ Hydrate: Dehydrated muscles are more prone to cramping and fatigue. Drink water before, during, and after your game!
✅ Check your gear: Ensure your shoes are the right fit and in good condition. The right footwear reduces impact and improves performance.
✅ Eat well: A light snack with carbs and protein can give you the energy you need to power through your game.

During the Game
💪 Play smart: Push yourself but know your limits. Sudden movements or overexertion can lead to strains and sprains.
🛑 Take breaks when needed: Listen to your body and rest during intervals. It's okay to take a step back and recover.
🏃‍♂️ Use proper technique: Whether you're running, kicking, or throwing, the right form helps reduce unnecessary stress on your muscles and joints.

After the Game
✅ Cool down and stretch: Spend 5-10 minutes stretching the muscles you worked hardest. This helps with flexibility and recovery.
✅ Recover properly: If you feel sore, try a cool-down walk or use ice packs to reduce inflammation.
✅ Rest and listen to your body: If pain persists after your game, give yourself a break and consider seeing a professional.

Pro tip: If you’re sore or struggling with injury, reach out to the experts at PACE Health Management for tailored advice and recovery strategies.

Researchers report that vigorous physical activity accounts for only 4% of adults waking time while sedentary behaviour accounts for 60%.

They say that even light physical activity can increase the odds of healthy aging.

They add that adequate sleep can also improve aging and longevity.

Researchers say people who exercise even moderately and get 7 hours of sleep per night have a significantly higher chance of aging in a healthy manner than people who are more sedentary

Physical activity has also been shown to prevent the onset of common mental health conditions in the first place.

With the latest figures pointing to declining mental wellbeing and an alarming rise in mental illness, particularly among younger Australians, experts say increasing the use of exercise for mental health should be part of the solution.

Experts say there should be more focus on using physical activity, by itself or in combination with other treatments, to treat and prevent depression and anxiety.

Ever wondered how much weight you really need to lose to improve your health?
What is considered a significant weight loss?

Studies and research have shown that a modest weight loss of 5-10% is linked to decreased risk of type 2 diabetes, impaired glucose tolerance, improvements in systolic and diastolic blood pressure, and HDL cholesterol.

There is significant improvements in measures of quality of life, depression, mobility, sexual dysfunction, and urinary stress incontinence and well as health care costs; 2-5% weight loss can bring improvements in female health and fertility.

When on a weight loss journey, it is important to target health improvement, rather than the number on the scale.

Our health goals should be assessed for a positive health response, rather than a set amount of weight to lose.
