16 Days of Activism

Day 8 | Respect Is Learning Together

Change begins with families — and with learning how to listen, connect, and respond with empathy.

In Australia, more than 5 000 children and young people under 18 were hospitalised because of family or domestic violence between 2010 and 2021.²

These experiences have lifelong impacts — which is why programs like Tuning in to Kids™ and Roadworthy for Dads help parents and carers build emotional intelligence, strengthen relationships, and break the cycle of harm.

Good Culture, Real Risk – When Commitment Creates Psychosocial Exposure

Many workplaces with strong values and supportive teams believe their culture protects them from harm.

But under Victoria’s new psychosocial safety regulations, good intentions don’t remove risk.

When staff go above and beyond because they care deeply about their work, that same commitment can expose both people and organisations to psychosocial injury.

Our Speaker – Natalie Walker is a nationally recognised executive leader and Churchill Fellow known for her work in trauma-informed leadership and psychosocial safety. In this session, she explores how to turn commitment into protection, not exposure.

16 Days of Activism
Day 7

Respect grows through action in our homes, workplaces and communities.

Across Australia, people are taking a stand for equality and safety by leading programs, supporting neighbours, mentoring others and creating spaces where respect can thrive.

Every act that promotes understanding, connection and care helps break the cycle of violence and builds a safer community for everyone.

Today we celebrate the advocates, partners and community leaders who make change happen every day.

16 Days of Activism

Day 4

Family violence does not just stay at home, its impact can reach into every part of life, including the workplace.

When someone is experiencing family violence, it can affect their safety, wellbeing and ability to participate fully at work.

The Safe and Supported at Work program provides confidential, short term support for employees affected by family violence.
This includes three counselling sessions and one legal information session on topics such as intervention orders and family law.

Delivered online and confidentially, the program helps employees access compassionate and professional support when it is needed most.

Together, we can create workplaces where everyone feels safe, respected and supported.
