ELBOW PAIN,
- Atlas Physio

Elbow Pain refers to any pain felt below the middle of the upper arm, and above the wrist. The elbow is the primary joint at which your arm bends forward and back, as well as the point at which it rotates the wrist. It is the point of attachment of many muscles that generate power, as well as muscles which offer fine control of the fingers and the wrist. For this reason, elbow pain is common in professions with involved or comprehensive upper limb movements, and may be felt by one in three people over the course of their lives.

The elbow is most commonly injured through acute trauma such as a fall or a bad knock. It is common for a strike or blow to the elbow to cause swelling, stiffness, pain, and a loss of function. Such impacts may occur during the course of sporting or work-related activities, or may just as easily be the result of domestic clumsiness. Conversely, the elbow can also experience injury as a result of long-term changes such as wear-down of the joint surfaces or progressive weakness in the muscles overlying it, as is the course in ageing.

Management of Elbow Pain depends on the cause of the pain, how it feels and changes over the day, what makes it better or worse, and the length of time you have been experiencing the pain. At Atlas Physio, we will provide you with education, structured management, and ongoing monitoring of your pain both in and out of the clinic. Contact us to arrange an assessment, and to take the first step on a course of corrective care today.

WHIPLASH
- Atlas Physio

Whiplash is a specific kind of head and neck pain that is the result of a rapid forward-and-backward displacement of the skull on the neck. Simply put, whiplash happens when the head is thrown forward and backward.

Whiplash pain can be felt in the head, the neck, and in the shoulders. Whiplash pain may be accompanied by headaches, dizziness, nausea, and numerous other symptoms. The variety in symptoms and the broad area in which the pain may be felt is due to the interconnected nature of the skull, the neck, and the shoulders.

Management of Whiplash depends on the cause of the pain, how it feels and changes over the day, what makes it better or worse, and the length of time you have been experiencing the pain. All of these factors will be addressed in your initial assessment, which is the first step towards minimising and managing any pain or discomfort.

At Atlas Physio, we will provide you with education, structured management, and ongoing monitoring of your pain both in and out of the clinic. Contact us to arrange an assessment, and to take the first step on a course of corrective care today.

WRY NECK
- Atlas Physio

Wry Neck refers to a series of conditions that result in a painfully twisted and tilted neck. Wry Neck may be present from birth due to congenital or anatomical factors, and is referred to as permanent Wry Neck. Wry Neck may also occur during the course of everyday life for people who do not have any predisposing anatomical factors, and this presentation can be quick to resolve. Some people go on to develop recurrent Wry Neck symptoms that eventually become chronic, requiring ongoing management and treatment to ensure their appropriate care.

Wry neck can be inherited, developed in the womb, and can arise from damage to the muscles of the neck or the arteries that supply those muscles with blood. Wry Neck Pain can also be caused as a result of other diseases, such as an ear infection or a cold. Wry Neck that develops as a consequence of other illness is generally quick to resolve, though has the potential of becoming recurrent if not properly addressed and managed.

Management of Wry Neck depends on the cause of the pain, how it feels and changes over the day, what makes it better or worse, and the length of time you have been experiencing the pain.

SAFETY SATURDAY: MANUAL HANDLING CASES
- Atlas Physio

Manual Handling may increase the risk of physical injury through different means. Where injuries occur, employers and persons conducting business undertakings are exposed to liability. Here, four common mechanisms of manual handling injuries and eight case records are examined to explore how poor control of occupational hazards increases downstream organisational risks.

ROTATOR CUFF PAIN
- Atlas Physio

Rotator Cuff Pain and Rotator Cuff Injuries are the result of discomfort or trauma felt within the muscles that make up the rotator cuff of the shoulder. Rotator Cuff Pain can be felt as pain in the front or back of the affected shoulder, as well as down the arm and in the neck, in some cases.

Rotator Cuff Pain is most commonly caused by over-use of the shoulder, by injury, or by age-related changes to the joints of the shoulder, neck and collarbone. The shoulder joint consists of numerous muscles all working together to articulate the shoulderblade and stabilise the arm so that we can complete tasks requiring dexterity, finesse, and power. We write, work, exercise and play with our arms and our hands because they are designed to produce a nearly infinite combination of movements to help us interact with the world.

Management of Rotator Cuff Injuries is a process that involves addressing physical, occupational, personal, and lifestyle risk factors to minimise pain and maximise function. At Atlas Physio, we will provide you with education, structured management, and ongoing monitoring of your pain both in and out of the clinic. Contact us to arrange an assessment, and to take the first step on a course of corrective care today.

HAND PAIN
- Atlas Physio

Hand Pain refers to pain experienced due to inflammation, injury to or irritation of the structures in the Hand and the Wrist. Hand Pain can be felt as pain in the wrist, the palm of the hand, the fingers, and even sometimes in the elbow of the affected arm. This is because the muscles that control the movement of the fingers and the position of the wrist have their origin at the elbow of the arm, and project to the wrist and fingers by means of their tendonous attachments.

Hand Pain is most commonly caused by over-use of the hand or fingers, by injury, or by age-related changes to the joints of the hand and fingers. The wrist, hand, and fingers consist of more than thirty bones of various sizes, and more than forty muscles. All of these bones and muscles need to articulate in concert to make the hands move, and produce both powerful and fine movements depending on what we are doing.

Management of Hand Pain is a process that involves addressing physical, occupational, personal, and lifestyle risk factors to minimise pain and maximise function.

At Atlas Physio, we will provide you with education, structured management, and ongoing monitoring of your pain both in and out of the clinic. Contact us to arrange an assessment, and to take the first step on a course of corrective care today.

REPETITIVE STRAIN INJURY,
- Atlas Physio

Repetitive Strain Injuries (also called RSI's) are overuse injuries. Occupational Overuse Syndrome (OOS) is another name used to describe RSI. Overuse injuries occur after doing the same movements over and over again, without giving the body time to recover from the stress of having executed those movements.

Repetitive Strain Injuries are tricky to manage because the discomfort often occurs as a consequence of everyday activity like working, walking, or even attending to personal care during shower and dress. Additionally, weakness that comes with RSI pain can only be addressed by strengthening the muscles in the affected area.

Management of RSI pain is a process that involves addressing physical, occupational, personal, and lifestyle risk factors to minimise pain and maximise function. At Atlas Physio, we will provide you with education, structured management, and ongoing monitoring of your pain both in and out of the clinic. Contact us to arrange an assessment, and to take the first step on a course of corrective care today.
