Hello Mariak’s squad!🙌

Big congratulations to the Twic Mayardit Students Association in Egypt lead by Chairman Aguek Malual Malek and his team, as well as the committee lead by former kidney disease survivor and Medical Doctor Dominic Deng Jiko and all of their partners and guests for a successful fundraiser in honor of Mariak. The committee has remained dedicated & is still active and committed to Mariak’s success. Thank you for remaining beside Mariak beyond the fundraising event. Mariak has undergone his testing lately to see how he’s doing with his blood cultures and how his organs are functioning. Mariak is doing okay lately although there are some expected complications currently being investigate by his doctor by the grace of God. We must remember that his current treatment of dialysis & diet change can’t be maintained long term. It is a short term treatment to buy time for his kidney transplant. Let’s stay vigilant!❤️🙏🏾

Let me share with you a challenge Mariak has been facing recently. 🥲

Mariak has recently been experiencing excess swelling, also known as edema in both legs and on his face. This can be caused by your kidneys not being able to remove excess fluid from your body. Especially for people with Chronic kidney disease (CKD) like our brother Mariak. This can be a symptom of hypervolemia which occurs when the body has too much fluid. Luckily Mariak received treatment for the swelling, refer to the pictures below for before and after pictures. He is still at risk of developing these symptoms again. 😔

Mariak as someone with Bilateral Chronic Kidney Failure is at risk of developing pleural effusion which is a build-up of fluid between the tissues that line the lungs and the chest.
Fluid can accumulate around the lungs due to poor pumping by the heart or by inflammation. We must also remember Mariak has an underlying condition called hypertension. Mariak will soon recieve scans to ensure he’s not experiencing this condition also. 🙏🏾

Mariak is battling symptoms of his conditions everyday. Everyday he is experiencing pain & risks of further deterioration. It is important to acknowledge this reality.
