As a somatic therapist, my own healing journey informs how I work, and allows me to meet clients from a place of lived and embodied experience.

For this reason, I am in no rush. There is no need to force, to push, to override. My intention is simply to meet the parts that are here as best I can, when they let me know that they are here to be interacted with.

This is the framework and practice I hope to impart in our time together. I know and trust my body to show me the way, which is why I have faith in your body’s ability to do the same.

My body is slow as the healing is deep, so I’m doing my best to be with it, in the way it needs me to be.

I would like to thank my body and its process. I would like to show my appreciation to all the parts that have come forward over the years and I look forward to meeting the parts that are yet to make themselves known. I am sure I will meet you in good time, feel free to come in your own time. There is no rush.

Here I am, in a state of elation at being fortunate enough to win tickets to attend a two day workshop with Bessel van der Kolk and Licia Sky last week.

Some highlights included hearing Bessel share his clinical knowledge and research about working with trauma, disrupted attachment and post traumatic growth.

As a group we were taken through some exercises by Licia who created a sense of curiosity as we were guided to bring awareness to, and connect to our body’s felt sense.

A reflection that stood out to me is that we aren’t dealing with trauma per se, but rather with insecure attachment. It’s not so much about what happened to us, it’s a question of who was there for us. Just noticing how this lands in my system each time I come across these words.

“Beneath the surface of the protective parts of trauma survivors there exists an undamaged essence, a Self that is confident, curious, and calm, a Self that has been sheltered from destruction by the various protectors that have emerged in their efforts to ensure survival. Once those protectors trust that it is safe to separate, the Self will spontaneously emerge, and the parts can be enlisted in the healing process.”
~ BvdK, The body keeps the score (2014)

As a somatic therapist, I see my role is to help safely bring awareness and support to the parts of us that felt alone and unheard. Connecting to these parts invites a change process, where something that was once stuck is able to find a way to express itself. This can lead to a feeling of spaciousness and relief in our system, freeing something in us to live a more authentic and meaningful life.

My love for learning continues as I embark on week one of eight of the Jungian core concepts course. In the words of Carl Jung, the privilege of a lifetime is to become who you truly are. I’m not sure what this looks like, but I trust that my felt sense has led me to this moment, as I join the dots between :

- the framework of Inner Relationship Focusing, which I use personally for my own resourcing and wellbeing and professionally in my somatic counselling and psychotherapy practice
- my more recent endeavours of studying Western Astrology, (which includes a healthy dose of mythology)
- and the core concepts of Jungian psychology

I don’t know where this will take me, all I know is that I’m excited, open and curious as to how this will all evolve.

You aren’t stuck. You’re being asked to revisit what you thought you had healed, so you can gain further insight, integrate and make sense of what has transpired, with the wisdom you have today.

Don’t be discouraged. This is an opportunity, a gift of sorts. You aren’t back at the start, you’re being shown that the compost of your past is available to feed and nourish the present.

If you would like to gain a deeper understanding by working somatically, and gaining insight in a bodily felt level that creates sustained change, feel free to get in touch.

This is your time to reap the rewards of all your hard work. This is an invitation to safely grow in an authentic and embodied way.

With the year’s end within reach, we may find ourselves reflecting on that year that was. The trials and tribulations we faced, the moments of connection and joy that we experienced, the roles we played in particular situations and the things we would like to change about ourselves and where we are.

May you take a moment to notice how far you’ve come and how much you’ve grown.

Perhaps take some time to thank your nervous system for having your back, allowing you to survive and overcome the challenges that have come your way.

You might like to show yourself some kindness and self compassion for doing the best that you could with the information you had at the time. There’s always an opportunity to learn new tools and skills to feel more empowered so that you can respond to situations differently.

Perhaps make note of your wins and achievements and acknowledge how well you’ve done. Consider using this list as fuel to motivate you as you journey to fulfill your dreams.

You might like to note down the resources that have supported you along the way (people, activities, interests) and make space for more of these in your life.

It’s never too late and you aren’t to old to grow and evolve. As long as there is breath, there is hope. You are worthy, you are deserving, you are enough.

Here’s to the year that was and to bringing qualities of curiosity, self compassion and kindness to the year ahead.

As we approach the year’s end, we can find ourselves reflecting upon the last twelve months. Every year comes with its challenges and breakthroughs, and this one has been no exception.

I have heard many say that they aren’t feeling particularly festive this year, and I would like to acknowledge that this time of year can bring up a lot of mixed emotions. In moments like this our system is asking for gentleness and self compassion as we meet the parts of us that need our support.

Here are my wishes for you. May the holiday season bring with it the rest and rejuvenation you need. May you feel glimmers of connection with yourself and those around you. May you find moments of peace and joy in the simplest of things.

Go gently.

When we realise that life truly is a dance, we learn to appreciate that when we were going backwards, we were creating momentum for our movement forward.

As long as there is movement, there is flow. Don’t be disheartened by the direction. Sometimes we are being asked to revisit the past so that we have a more profound understanding, allowing us to go deeper within our healing process. This helps us free up space so we have capacity for more joy, our hopes and dreams and greater connection.

Keep going. It’s all part of the process. Don’t give up. This too shall pass.

Here in the Southern Hemisphere, we are fast approaching Christmas holidays, which means an extended break over the Christmas and New Year period. Often, we may find ourselves ramping up prior to going on leave, so we can meet demands placed on us by others, and to meet our own expectations of where we should be.

A question you might like to ask yourself is how you wish to arrive at your well deserved break? Do you want to feel like you have the energy to enjoy your allocated time off, or are you so tired that you are falling over yourself to get there?

Making small changes now can be a game changer. Here are a list of suggested ways to resource yourself so that you can have the energy to arrive at the finishing line with some fuel in your tank.

- find the time to pause, go into nature and take in the colours and the sounds of your surroundings
- incorporate some gentle movement in your day like yoga, stretching, walking in nature
- prepare and enjoy some nourishing meals that sustain you
- listen to your favourite playlist/podcast whilst having a bath/foot soak
- plan something fun, like a concert, cultural event, restaurant you have been wanting to try
- reach out to people who feed and nourish your soul
- book an appointment to nourish your mind, body and soul before you go on holiday and whilst you’re on your break.

Often, when we are going fast, we need to resource ourselves by engaging in activities that encourage us to go slow. Trust me, your body will thank you for it.

Do you ever reflect on your values and how to live by them? One of my core values is to cultivate continued and sustained inner growth.

The way I go about doing this is through engaging in regular attunement and listening practices to meet my system and what it needs.

I engage in this practice as a way of accompanying the parts of me that didn’t receive the emotional support they needed when I was a child. Meeting myself in this way provides me with the repair and nurture I need to be able to form safe and secure connections in the world.

It allows me to feel a growing sense of comfort in my own skin so that I can be an active participant in life. It gifts me the ability to trust myself and others and allows me to navigate the day to day with curiosity and flexibility.

I bring this approach to therapeutic sessions, offering a safe space so you can foster a compassionate and empathetic connection with yourself. In turn, this allows for the unfolding of your inner roots to anchor in a safe harbour so that you can find your way home.

Hello all,

I’m walking alongside a global movement of change to end violence against women, both physically and metaphorically, in support of the campaign run by . This event starts on November 25th, and runs for 16 days.

According to an Australian report released in August 2024, Unlocking the prevention potential: accelerating action to end domestic, family and sexual violence

- 1 in 4 women (23% or 2.3 million) and 1 in 14 men (7.3% or 692,000) have experienced violence by an intimate partner since the age of 15
- 1 in 4 women and 1 in 7 men had experienced emotional abuse by a current or previous cohabiting partner since the age of 15.
- 1 in 5 women and 1 in 16 men had experienced sexual violence since the age of 15 *

Through my work, I have witnessed how violence against women plays out across genders and generations, creating various challenges in one’s ability to reach their potential to live full and meaningful lives.

Feeling safe is a human right and is at the core of the work I do. We can no longer afford to look away and ignore such a pivotal issue that has enormous ramifications for the health and wellbeing of our society.

If you feel so inclined to contribute to this cause, I thank you wholeheartedly. Link in bio. Thank you to those who have supported me to date. Together, we are stronger.

What do you do when you feel a sense of discomfort in your body? I’m speaking of the churning in your stomach. The tightness in your throat.

Many people report ignoring such sensations or engaging in activities that serves as a distraction, in the hope that the feelings will go away. This can be an effective short term solution, but what can you do if this is no longer working for you?

I invite you to consider becoming curious about what you’re feeling so that you can get to know and recognise these feelings as messengers. Your body is not out to get you, it is here to support you.

The more familiar you become with these feelings, in a safe and supportive way, the less fear of the unknown is present, shifting your nervous system from a protective state, to one of curiosity and connection.

When these feelings next present, you recognise them as a friend, rather than a foe. As a result, you won’t need to expend as much energy in shutting down the feelings, so you have more capacity for other things, such as creativity and meaningful connection.

There is a richness of experience waiting to be tapped into when we learn how to listen to the messages that our body has for us. We cultivate our ability to feel more confident and empowered as we build greater trust in ourselves, leading to a more adaptable and responsive nervous system, because we feel more comfortable in our own skin.

How often do you take time out to pause and check in with yourself? There may be significant questions that emerge, requiring a level of reflection and for us to be honest with ourselves.

Engaging in such conversations with ourselves and others ensures that our life has meaning and that we are not merely operating on autopilot.

We are so much more than what we do in our day to day lives, even though it may seem like we need to keep our head down and our dreams in check so we can pay the bills. Taking some time and space to reflect upon this allows us to (re)consider our path and purpose.

Rather than just going through the motions, we are invited to consider what makes us feel alive, and where we can inject more vitality and joy in our lives.

I provide a safe space to contemplate and reflect upon what is important to you and how you can lead a more satisfying life through cognitive processing and embodied listening.
