MAX ANGUS HOUSE | From the moment we discovered 116 Bathurst Street in nipaluna/Hobart, we knew we wanted to honour what was already meaningful about this place.
Built in 1959, this mid-century building features celebrated Tasmanian artist Max Angus AM’s distinctive Mondrian-inspired mosaic façade.
According to his son Peter Angus, this is likely the only remaining public art of Max Angus’ in the city—and his family is thrilled that it’s being recognised.
Rather than imposing a new identity, we chose to celebrate what was already there. Now reimagined as Max Angus House, this repositioned building stands as both workspace and cultural tribute, complete with its remarkable 20-metre indoor rubber fig tree that has grown through the building’s heart for decades.
Preserving heritage, fostering creativity, and cultivating spaces where businesses can thrive within precinct.
