Worming 101: get faecal egg counts done every quarter. (Every 3 months) We only bust out the worming meds when counts exceed 500 strongyle eggs per gram (except for that one annual worming) Get your counts done with me - drop off at Peninsula Park and I’ll advise you 😊🐛🪱🐴

Autumn is well and truly here with beautiful days and freezing cold nights 🥶 There are still Bot flies around so please hold off another few weeks on worming. I recommend using a paste with Moxidecton in it (look at ingredients, not brand!)
Perfect timing to get those pre worming Feacal Egg Counts done now 😊

WHY DO FAECAL EGG COUNTS🤷‍♀️
It’s a sad state of affairs… Horses are becoming resistant to all the different drugs we use in our wormers… If we keep going the way we are and continue to use wormers when we don’t need to and we will have no drugs left that work… So please get onboard and do faecal egg counts to assess if your horse actually needs wormed 🪱

HOW DO I ORGANISE A FEC?
Take a golf ball size/handful bit of manure from the top/middle of a fresh pile of manure. Ensure the 💩 has not touched the grass as this may interfere with the results. Samples should be collected and kept cool. Ideally double bagged and in the fridge until they are handed to me (within 48 hours, max 72 hours) for accurate results.
