Hey everyone!
Have you ever had an ingrown toenail? These pesky little things can be really painful and annoying, and they can happen to anyone at any age.
Ingrown toenails occur when the edge of the toenail grows into the skin of the toe instead of straight out. This can cause redness, swelling, and pain. If left untreated, an ingrown toenail can become infected.
So, what can you do to prevent ingrown toenails? Here are a few tips:
- Cut your toenails straight across, rather than rounding the corners
- Wear shoes that fit properly and don't squeeze your toes
- Avoid forcing your feet into shoes that are too small
If you notice an ingrown toenail starting to form, soak your foot in warm water and gently push the skin away from the nail.
If the pain persists or the nail becomes infected, see your podiatrist for treatment. The sooner you receive treatment, the quicker it will be gone.
