🤔 HOW DO WE KNOW IF THERAPY IS WORKING?

At Back to Basics Health Group, we believe that measuring therapy outcomes is essential to delivering the best support to our clients.

Late last month, our Director Andrew Charalambous spoke at the Nacre Quarterly Accelerator Conference, highlighting how measuring therapy outcomes plays a key role in achieving better client outcomes:

✔ Track real client progress and adjust therapy for greater impact
✔ Strengthen communication and alignment across multidisciplinary teams
✔ Provide the evidence needed to secure and maintain NDIS funding
✔ Involve clients and families as active partners in their therapy journey

📝 In our latest blog, we dive deeper into the strategies Andrew shared and how we’re putting them into practice every day.

📖 Read the full article to learn how we’re making therapy more effective, measurable, and client-focused.

💙 Shining a Spotlight on Autism: World Autism Awareness Day 💙
Today, we’re shining a spotlight on the incredible strengths, stories, and contributions of autistic individuals as we celebrate World Autism Awareness Day.

At Back to Basics Health Group, we believe in building a world where autism is understood, respected and celebrated—not just acknowledged one day a year. Autism isn’t something to be “fixed”—it’s a different, valuable way of experiencing the world.

🧠 What is Autism?
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects how people perceive, communicate, and connect with others. No two autistic people are the same—and that’s the beauty of it.

Autistic individuals may:
✔️ Process sensory information differently
✔️ Have strong interests or intense focus
✔️ Communicate in unique or non-traditional ways

With support, understanding and inclusion, autistic individuals thrive in all areas of life.

📊 Key Facts You Should Know:
• 1 in 70 Australians is on the autism spectrum
• Autism is a neurological difference—not a disease
• Many in the community prefer identity-first language (e.g. “autistic person”)
• Early support and inclusive environments lead to positive lifelong outcomes

🧠💙 World Bipolar Day – Let’s Talk, Australia (and the World)! 💙🧠
30 March is World Bipolar Day – a time to raise awareness, smash stigma, and support the millions of people living with bipolar disorder across the globe.

At Back to Basics Health Group, we’re going Back to Basics – because understanding bipolar disorder starts with honest conversations and access to the right support.

🔍 What is Bipolar Disorder?
Bipolar disorder is a complex mental health condition characterised by extreme mood changes – from manic highs to depressive lows. It affects energy levels, thinking patterns, and the ability to carry out daily tasks – but with the right care, people can live full, meaningful lives.

📊 Key Stats You Should Know:
🇦🇺 In Australia:
• Around 568,000 Australians live with bipolar disorder – that’s about 2.9% of the population
• Most are diagnosed between 15–25 years old
• Early support leads to better outcomes
🌍 Globally:
• Bipolar disorder affects over 46 million people worldwide
• It ranks among the top 10 causes of disability in young adults globally
• Many remain undiagnosed or misdiagnosed due to stigma and lack of awareness

💜 Purple Day: Breaking Down Barriers Around Epilepsy 💜

26 March is Purple Day, a global movement to raise awareness and understanding of epilepsy — a condition affecting over 142,000 Australians and more than 50 million people worldwide.

At Back to Basics Health Group, we’re proud to stand with the Epilepsy Foundation and Epilepsy Action Australia in promoting education, inclusion, and support for people living with epilepsy.

Despite how common epilepsy is, it's still misunderstood. Many people aren’t sure what a seizure looks like or how to help — and that uncertainty can lead to fear, stigma, and inadequate first aid.

By educating ourselves and others, we can break down these barriers and ensure people with epilepsy feel seen, supported, and safe.

Here’s how you can get involved:
✅ Learn how to recognise seizures
✅ Understand how to give seizure first aid
✅ Encourage open conversations and challenge the stigma
✅ Support those living with epilepsy by sharing trusted information

📘 Learn more here: https://www.epilepsy.org.au/about-epilepsy/understanding-epilepsy/

💡 Most people with epilepsy can control seizures with their first medication. For those with ongoing seizures, new treatment options are available — but awareness is key. Speaking to an epilepsy specialist can make all the difference.

Whether you’re wearing purple today, sharing this post, or learning something new — thank you for being part of a more informed and compassionate community.

💜 Let’s bring epilepsy out of the shadows — together.

🧠 As Neurodiversity Celebration Week Comes to a Close…

One powerful truth remains: nothing is more impactful than lived experience.
Unfortunately, too often conversations, policies, and programs about neurodivergent people happen without their voices in the room.

But no one understands the strengths, challenges, and day-to-day realities of neurodivergence better than those who live it. When we listen to lived experience, we move from surface-level awareness to real, meaningful inclusion.

Today—and every day—is about listening, learning, and uplifting neurodivergent voices.

💡 6 Ways to Be a Neurodivergent Advocate
✔️ Follow neurodivergent advocates sharing their experiences and challenging stereotypes (check out the links below!)

📚🌟 What Does True Inclusion Look Like in Schools?
Neurodiversity isn’t just about awareness—it’s about action. True inclusion in schools means creating environments where neurodivergent students feel supported, valued, and empowered to succeed.

But what does that actually look like? Here are 10 ways to create a more inclusive school environment:

✅ Flexible learning options – Providing visual, auditory, and hands-on ways to engage.
✅ Sensory-friendly classrooms – Quiet spaces, fidget tools, and movement breaks.
✅ Clear and structured communication – Using visual schedules and step-by-step instructions.
✅ Strength-based approaches – Focusing on what students do well, not just challenges.
✅ Teacher and peer education – Promoting understanding and acceptance in the school community.
✅ Alternative assessment methods – Allowing verbal responses, extra time, or project-based learning instead of standardised tests.
✅ Choice and autonomy – Giving students control over their learning environment, such as seating options or breaks when needed.
✅ Supportive transitions – Providing clear guidance when moving between activities, classrooms, or year levels.
✅ Collaboration with families – Working closely with parents and caregivers to ensure consistent support at home and school.
✅ Zero-tolerance for bullying – Implementing strong anti-bullying policies that specifically address the needs of neurodivergent students.

At Back to Basics Health Group, we are passionate about helping neurodivergent students thrive by working alongside educators, parents, and professionals to create inclusive, supportive learning environments. 💙

💥 Busting the Top 5 Myths About Neurodiversity!

While we’ve come along away in understanding Neurodiversity in the last decade, there are still a lot of misconceptions. But the more we understand, the more inclusive we can be, so let’s take a closer look at some common myths and the reality behind them.

🧠 Myth 1: "All neurodivergent people are the same."
🔹 Reality: Neurodivergence includes a wide range of experiences—no two autistic, ADHD, or dyslexic individuals are alike. Everyone has their own unique strengths and challenges.

🔧 Myth 2: "Neurodivergence is something to 'fix'."
🔹 Reality: Neurodivergence isn’t a problem—it’s a natural variation in how people think and process the world. Many neurodivergent individuals thrive in areas like creativity, innovation, and problem-solving when given the right support.

💬 Myth 3: "Neurodivergent people struggle with communication."
🔹 Reality: Neurodivergent individuals may communicate differently, not less. Some prefer written over verbal communication, others may need more processing time, and assistive tools can be helpful. Understanding different communication styles makes all the difference.

🎓 Myth 4: "Neurodivergent students just need to try harder."
🔹 Reality: Learning differences like dyslexia or ADHD aren’t about effort—they’re about how the brain processes information. With the right teaching approaches, every student can succeed in their own way.

👥 Myth 5: "Workplaces don’t need to adjust for neurodivergent employees."
🔹 Reality: Small changes—like clearer communication, flexible work options, and sensory-friendly spaces—can make a big difference. Creating an inclusive workplace benefits everyone, not just neurodivergent employees.

✨ By challenging these myths, we can create a world where every mind is valued. Let’s continue learning, listening, and embracing different ways of thinking!
