The State Government keeps saying that the sustainability of shared accomodation for people living with disability is not their problem. These services provide a quality of life and safe home for some of the most vulnerable members of our community. We know that Victorian workers, Victorian families and Victorians with disability ARE the responsibility of this Government.

84 disability houses have now closed across the state. Disability workers are calling for an emergency funding package to safeguard our services and address this growing crisis. Families of participants are begging for the safety and security of their loved ones. People living with disability are hoping their house closure isn’t next on the list.

Yesterday we rallied outside ’s office demanding to know what plans are in place to stop the house closures and stabilise our sector - and we won’t stop until we are heard and the people we care for are safe.

HACSU is the only specialist union for Disability Support Workers in Victoria. When we stand for workers in this sector we also stand for participants, their families, and the broader community.

- we care. Do you?

HACSU Disability members popped by the Minister for Disability’s office today - but guess who wasn’t home?

Whilst this government’s inaction has pushed a crumbling system to the brink of collapse, the Minister is still missing in action…

HACSU members have made it clear that we will not let the Minister run and hide any longer. We will keep coming back until the State Government takes action to protect disability workers and the vulnerable Victorians they look after.

Congratulations public mental health workers! Today, the Fair Work Commission has formally approved your new EBA! 🎉

The EBA, along with all of its new benefits and protections comes into effect next Monday 2 March.

The wins in this EBA are thanks to a long, dedicated campaign by HACSU members. Through every setback and every struggle, we remained united – and now we have an agreement we can all be proud of. And we'll stay united so we can fight and win even bigger next time! 💖

The Guardian has reported on extensive cuts to the NDIS, with advocates slamming new implementations as "robo-planning".

Last year was full of slashed funding, with two more major cuts announced by the NDIA for 2026. These rollouts include I-CAN, an automated tool for identifying and classifying support which bypasses human interaction in the evaluation process of individual funding plans.

Disabled Australians will also see a reduction in their appeal rights as the administrative review tribunal will no longer have the same grounds to alter individual plans.

Right now it's clear the NDIS is failing Australians, dramatic cuts to SIL funding has seen over 70 group home closures. Where is the NDIS heading? When will our governments stand up for vulnerable Victorians? 💔

Zelda is a staunch union advocate who has worked in disability for 13 years. Watch this video to learn how being a Disability Support Worker is “much more complicated than people think”. 💜🧡

These vital workers are all too often overlooked. The State and Federal government need to stop passing the buck and start meeting their moral obligations to vulnerable Australians who deserve dignity, respect, and quality of life.

Throwback to when HACSU Disability members last took protected action. 8 YEARS AGO! ✊️

Tomorrow marks a major milestone for Disability Workers across the nation as Aruma members commence protected industrial action from 6AM, for the first time in almost a decade. Members have chosen not to back down in the face of roadblocks from service providers, the State and Federal governments and are staying strong to demand more - this historical snap, is an important reminder that when we fight, we win! 💜🧡

Disability Support Workers love their jobs and work tirelessly to provide quality care to participants. Right now, the disability sector is facing cuts that threaten participants homes and safety. Families are being left in the dark and workers are faced with uncertainty for the future of their careers. 💔

These issues come as a result of the Victorian Government subsidy for Group Homes ending on the 31st of December, as well as increasing strain on the NDIS.

HACSU is holding a series of events to build a united front. We encourage all members, participants and their families to get involved. Visit savedisability.org to find one near you. ✊
