A study published in Evidence-Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine has highlighted the potential benefits of scalp acupuncture for patients recovering from acute ischemic stroke. The research indicates that acupuncture may enhance functional connectivity in brain networks associated with visual and cognitive-motor functions, often impaired following a stroke.

The study involved 30 hemiplegic patients randomly assigned to receive either standard rehabilitation therapy alone or in combination with scalp acupuncture. Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) was used to assess changes in brain activity. Results showed that patients receiving scalp acupuncture exhibited increased connectivity in areas of the brain responsible for visual processing and motor coordination, suggesting improved neural communication in these regions.

These findings support the integration of scalp acupuncture into rehabilitation programs for stroke patients, offering a complementary approach to enhance recovery of visual and motor functions. As always, it's essential to consult with your specialist, GP, and TCM practitioner to determine the most appropriate treatment plan for specific needs.

Today's Acufacial 💆🏻

Today's patient is 40+ ears old, so I used multi-functional oils for her treatment. Her skin is on the dry side, making it well-suited for layered skincare.

First, I used extra C facial oil (anti-wrinkle) and organic green tea oil (brightening + hydrating) to massage her entire face using rose quartz gua sha tool. Then, I performed acupuncture on her face and body, using different types of Japanese Seirin needles 🇯🇵 for different parts of the face. For the acne on the side of her face, I used micro-needling, with all the needles left in place for about 30-40 minutes.

After removing the needles, I used the booster (enhancing effect) for facial gua sha. All the oils were absorbed into her skin. Finally, I used German arnica oil to scrub shoulders, neck ane scalp.

I can help order these excellent oils and sprays so you can use them at home for skincare.

The award-winning organic green tea oil is developed by an Australian TCM doctor 🇦🇺, while other products are developed by an aromatherapist.

After the treatment, her skin became visibly finer and smoother, and her forehead wrinkles were no longer obvious. Her eye bags were due to recent long-distance flights, and a weak spleen and stomach, so I prepared two bottles of herbal granules for her, we always receive better results with acupuncture & herbs combo.

(From the photos) The blue spray bottle is for spraying on pillows and bedding, particularly suitable for those who wake up during the night and cannot go back to sleep. The black bottle helps with difficulty falling asleep and getting deeper sleep, while the Neroli bottle is a night cream.

The patient told me that she felt a noticeable difference after using extraC and booster continuously for seven days.

I recommend that young people get cosmetic acupuncture every three weeks to maintain the effect, while people over 50 may need more frequent treatments to achieve a more profound result.🧡

謝謝大家的支持。

The 🔗 below is a petition to the Australian Federal Minister of Health, requesting the federal government to include acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine in the National Health Care Medicare Enhanced Primary Care (EPC) Program.

Once the federal government incorporates acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine treatment into this plan, most eligible elderly and sick patients will receive Medicare support from the federal government and reduce the cost of some treatments. We need to collect at least 2,000 signatures and we hope everyone will actively participate.

Thanks for your support 🙏

Will this be the last era of TCM in Australia?

From 2024, RMIT will no longer be running the double Bachelor degree for Chinese medicine , there will be no student clinic in 5 years time, and no more internship in Nanjing China.

This is bad news for those who want to enter into this industry to learn the wonderful art of treating themselves and others.

The dry needling courses are available in Australia for the other allied health professionals but they are just not the same (if you have experienced acu before you would definitely know the difference)

Please help and sign the petition for future potential TCM practitioners in this country!

How much water are you drinking per day? 💧

In Australia we have a formula for the recommend daily intake of water: ie. your weight(kg) x 30 ml of water. For example for a 60kilo human we would recommend 1.8 litres of water intake as a absolute minimum. If you live in a dry environment, or sweating a lot, you will need to replenish more 🚰 to keep hydrated! Our body needs water to function properly, dehydration can cause dry skin, constipation, headache, back pain as we need sufficient water to transport and transform nutrients in the body and enough Yin (water) to detox waste via sweating, tears and the urinary system.

(品水師)from Taiwan discussed all things re: water tasting in a podcast that it is important to read the label of our bottled water. In Germany, health practitioners would often prescribe water to their patients for their therapeutic properties. One of the water mentioned in this department was Comtrex - a water from France which is a Calcium-rich (486mg/l) mineral water.

To begin my water tasting adventure, I went to a local supermarket during lunch and grab a bottle of Fiji to “try” , it tastes “silky” as it is high in Silica (🤩93mg per litre, which is higher than most of the supplements out there ) and high TDS.

Silica plays an important role in strengthening the bones, reducing the risk of fractures and osteoporosis. Silica is also important in the synthesis or collagen, which helps to keep our skin elastic, builds stronger nails and hair..

I am not paid to talk about Fuji water - it just happens that it is available in the local supermarket - the water are collected from rain filtered through volcanic rock into an underground aquifer and bottled in the rainforest of Viti Levu. The company set up Fuji Water Foundation to provide clean water and healthcare to the local community.

Flavours of water is impacted by the mineral content, salinity and PH levels. Do you drink tap or filtered water, sparkling, still or mineral water ? Which one is your favourite?

According to a systematic review of randomized controlled trials, moxibustion the acupoint Kidney 1 (Yong Quan 湧泉)can help to lower blood pressure.

It’s predicted that globally there will be 1.56 billions adults with hypertension by 2025.

Studies have shown that only one-half of the patients are compliant with drug therapy.
Alternative therapies such as acupuncture and moxibustion are able to aid in the management of blood pressure.

Several studies have also demonstrated that these treatments have good effect on the cardiovascular system including excitation of somatic afferent input, activating sympathetic inhibitory systems in the brain related to endogenous opioids, novice pain, serotonin etc (hopefully I haven’t lost you here…!)

In TCM, Kidney 1 is located in the 1/3 top of the sole of our feet and it has the function of directing the energy downward, relieving hiccup/burping, calming the mind etc.

In our clinic, if our patient is willing to do self-care at home, we would often teach them to perform moxibustion of this acupoint in the evening, as it can provide warmth to the feet, relaxa the mind and is non-invasive and inexpensive to be performed at home by the family members of the hypertensive patients.

This is a new patient I treated today- she has been taking hypertensive drug but they are not able to control the blood pressure. She also suffers from lower back pain and recurrent headache. After assessing her tongue and pulse we’ve decided that moxa kidney 1 is a good additional treatment to her weekly dose of acupuncture.

Our Story

Eliza is a dedicated and gentle practitioner with a particular focus in pain management, menopausal symptoms, hay fever, digestive issues, emotional conditions such as stress, anxiety and insomnia, autoimmune disease support, skin disorders, skin rejuvenation, weight loss and general wellbeing.

Having previously worked in a corporate environment, Eliza can relate to the stresses it can bring to our body. She truly believes that our physical well being is influenced by factors such as our emotional health, lifestyle (including diet, sleep etc) and environment. Eliza’s great grandfather was a owner of a herbal shop “Xiang Shan Tang” (”香山堂”)in a small town in rural Hungzhou, China, providing herbal medicine to the locals. The shop was unfortunately shut down during civil unrest. Since then, no one in the family stepped into the same field but somehow the DNA imprints in Eliza’s bloodline has drawn her closer to the family tradition, as this career is more aligned with her passion and the purpose of helping others.

Eliza graduated from the five-year Bachelor of Applied Science (Chinese Medicine) and Bachelor of Health Science (Human Biology) from RMIT University with Distinction, furthering her knowledge from university with internships at the prestigious Jiangsu Provincial Chinese Medicine Hospital in Nanjing, China, and Tzu Chi Hospital in Taipei, where she saw a very wide range of conditions and learnt about different approaches to treatment. She has also completed Reiki Master Level and Level 1 MAHA aromatherapy and taken specialist courses in facial acupuncture and Dr. Shou’s pulse taking method. She continues to study from renowned experts in order to provide better treatments for patients.

She is fluent in English, Mandarin Chinese and Cantonese. Eliza is also writing Chinese articles on a public Wechat official account. Please scan the following QR code to read stories in Chinese.
