What a magical Christmas event 🎄 🎥 🍿

Yesterday we hosted a special screening of Singin' in the Rain at the cinema, surrounded by our incredible clients and our wonderful team of CAREGivers and Key Players.

Have you heard of the Chatty Cafe Scheme?
There are now over 200 Chatty Cafe venues across the country, helping to reduce the feeling of isolation and bringing communities together to 'come for a coffee and stay for a chat'.

Chatty Cafe venues have organised consistent days and times where they will have space set up at their venues for people to come have a coffee and chat with other people in the community.

The role of a family carer can be demanding, stressful and rather tiring. Home Instead can assist by offering flexible respite care options, keeping you and your family cared for.

Our respite care services are tailored to helping out your regular carer, offering you both some help when needed. A well-planned respite program provides you both regular, scheduled breaks – helping to keep your home manageable, comfortable and relaxed.

You’ll also have the added benefit of a singular, regular CAREGiver, who will be assigned specifically to you. They’ll come in when you choose, and spend some quality time helping around the house. And in the process, you’ll have a new, friendly face to enjoy at home.

Our CAREGivers are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. We can provide you respite services on a regular, scheduled basis; for planned special events (i.e. if you need to travel or will be out of town; or on short-notice when you need our help).

The Merri-bek Council have a social connections and activities program that is designed to cater to the needs of our Merri-bek Community aged 65 years and over.

They offer a great range of community, center-based, and online activities including exercise, inner peace and balance, gardening programs, Men’s engagement groups, Line Dancing and Cafe connections.

Every Tuesday and Wednesday there is a community-based program where clients can enjoy a nutritious meal and connect with others and it is held at the Degani Cafe at Coburg Hill from 11:30am - 1:30pm each week and it costs $6.40 per session.

After being diagnosed with mild cognitive decline, Brian was living in a residential aged care facility. One of our CAREGivers had been providing weekly companionship for him in the facility, however he was eager to return home.

There were some concerns about how safe he would be at home due to his risk of falling, but Brian was clear about his wishes and worked with our team and his family. Our Care Managers developed a 24 hour care plan, so we could monitor him while he settled back in and determine whether he could safely move around the home without full-time assistance.

His CAREGivers encourage him to go for walks to maintain his mobility and they ensure he is getting enough food and fluids. Brian prefers to snack on cheese, so our team has played an important role in encouraging him to eat nutritious food that will keep him healthy, so he can fulfill his wish to live at home for as long as possible.

Brian says "Returning home was important to me, and I wanted to access care to give me added security. I chose Home Instead, because I appreciated their reputation and my own experience of using them for companionship.

They have been able to implement my wishes – they encourage me to be independent and they make me feel safe at home. I enjoy chats with my CAREGivers and doing crosswords with my CAREGiver. I would recommend Home Instead, because I am happy with the service.”
