Brain Health Basics 🧠👉🏽 ever found yourself feeling off? Brain foggy, sluggish, sad, anxious, scattered, unable to focus or get anything done?
Step number 1 - Check yourself and your daily habits, these are so simple that they can often get neglected despite being incredibly important in keeping us regulated.
Here is a five point checklist for the next time you’re not feeling yourself:
1️⃣ Sunshine - Getting sunlight in your eyes (especially in the morning) helps regulate our circadian rhythm, improves sleep, supports production of Vitamin D and increases serotonin therefore boosting your mood.
Goes without saying, please do not stare directly at the sun, indirect light is more than okay!
2️⃣ Plant your feet - Getting your bare feet onto the earth will ground you, connect you back to nature, reduce stress, improve circulation and reduce inflammation.
Combine your earthing time with a meditation, mindfulness or movement practice for a double dose of brain love.
3️⃣ Daily walks - Hitting the pavement is a non-negotiable for your brain health! As well as decreasing stress and improving fitness, it has been shown that even 30 mins a day will strengthen communication between all parts of your brain; improving memory, problem solving, decision making and focus.
4️⃣ Sleep Hygiene - Prioritise that rest! Are you getting your 8 hours?
Keep a consistent bedtime and wake up schedule. Limit/cut out screen time for 2 hours before bed time.
Dont forget your sunlight in the morning.
Avoid stimulants like caffeine after noon.
Limit alcohol as much as you can - while it may feel like it helps you sleep it is actually detrimental to sleep quality.
5️⃣ Hydration - Even mild dehydration can impair cognitive function, concentration and mood. Staying hydrated supports memory and focus, and improves over all cellular function.
Pop a pinch of celtic sea salt in your water bottle, it provides important trace minerals and maximises absorption!
