And we are back for this years One Foot Forward. As you might have seen 3 Ducks Psychology was featured in The Black Dog Institute newsletter a couple of moths ago due to all the hard work we have done fundraising for them over the years. We would love to keep the momentum building so if you have a few are dollars down the back of the sofa please help us continue our efforts for funding research, awareness and resources to those experiencing mental health issues.
If you’re keen to join the Duckies team or donate let me know!

Today I completed the on a rainy day after a scorcher yesterday. Certainly wasn’t setting the world on fire with my time but still crossed that line & no matter what your time 42.2km is still 42.2km.

In the process of the marathon & an extra 1.8km I also completed The Great Mate Walk (44km) for the awesome team (I couldn’t wear their cool singlet due to the weather-sorry guys) but I did raise $235 for men’s mental health & to help these legends keep educating & creating awareness of men’s mental health issues, especially the shockingly high su***de rate among our Aussie men. All these much loved men are someone’s father, brother, son, partner, best mate, who leave behind devastated people who will never recover from that tragedy.

Please if you are struggling reach out to someone whether a family member/friend or a professional mental health clinician. Because we would all prefer to listen to hours & hours of whatever you’re feeling & whatever you’re struggling with than ever have to listen to 15 minutes of your eulogy.

Thanks to who has done 2 huge runs with me this OFF month: The Rollercoaster Run (23km) & Puffing Billy Train Race (13.5km) & to her husband who joined us for a OFF walk into the the city, a loop of the Tan Track & back home again (13km). Also Narelle has so far donated 19.5km to my km goal in last few days as my body has hit the wall & I’ve only been able to manage 1-3km a day the last couple days due to injury. So a huge thank you for the assist!

This is what I love about our duckies OFF community but also the wider OFF community, we are all here to support each other when we need a hand, whether that’s a friend to reach out to for a chat because you’re struggling, heading to the OFF FB page to read some amazing inspirational stories & support, or contacting the awesome team to access their huge amount of resources for mental health support, guidance & direction on where to go/what do next in your mental health journey.

If you haven’t already done so please don’t forget to leave a message on the “solidarity wall” & also please consider doing a “Random Act of Kindness” on the One Foot Forward webpage.

2024 has been a phenomenal year for OFF in their 5th year & we are super proud to be OG members. Keep an eye out Friday as I will update the team on our Duckies stats for the month & also the final figures that your participation this month went towards achieving for the whole OFF challenge.

Another Sunday, another race for One Foot Forward, this time the Puffing Billy Race. Not a fab time of 84mins but crossed the line & another 14km in the kitty for our team.
But the last 6 weeks have taken a huge toll on the old body that's held together with half of Bunnings, medications & a really good neurosurgeons fabulous work!!! in the last 6 weeks I have run 2 full marathons, the incredibly challenging 23km Rollercoaster Run, the 14km Puffing Billy Run (the last 3 all back-to-back) plus all the other early morning runs & walks for OFF & so with 202km in the bank for October the reality is I am unlikely to get to my km target which was 250km this year. But thats ok because every single run or walk has raised awareness of the BDI, the work the do & mental health.
Our Duckies team has raised $4159 & walked a combined total of 1039km. I am super proud of all our duckies and with 3 & a bit days to go I'm sure there will be some more wins still to come.
A final comment: OFF really isn't about how many km's you end of up walking or how much $$$ you raise, its about how much awareness we spread & the much needed conversations we start about mental health, reducing the stigma & encourage seeking help. everyone who participated in this years OFF should be super proud of themselves no matter those final totals are come thursday night.

OFF days 19 & 20: Yesterday one of my OFF Duckie friends & I completed (with a LOT of whinging, complaining, inventive swear words & an Exorcist worthy projectile vom!) the 23km Rollercoaster Run in the Dandenong Ranges. it was quite frankly not a FUN run but definitely started with "F".
Torrential rain the day before made an already challenging track with a 1100m elevation gain, now a muddy slippery mess that really tested the mind as much as the body. somehow we managed to finish & add the hardest 23km to our OFF total to date.

Day 20: 3 little ducks went out one day, into the city & far away (around the Tan Track & home again) to add another 12km each to our total distances.

Super happy to report our Duckies have now raised $3,623 & walked a total of 788km. well done my Duckies, super proud of all of you!

But i did finish & go look at my 3 ducks IG for the Story on doing hard things. here's some fun snaps of the day....but let me tell you running out onto the Mighty G makes you feel like you are running onto the ground for a Grand Final-pretty bloody cool. and also more donations in the bag for Black Dog!

Day 5 One Foot Forward for Black Dog Institute: and holy dooley it was a doozey! 15.5km Grade 5 rated hike/run in the Dandenong Ranges. Stunning trails, views, beautiful trees, spring flowers, towering ferns, creeks, mini waterfalls & Sky High (not at 3am this time!!) but man those hills were intense. 723m of ascent & 711m descent-my calves are telling me all about it this arvo!

tomorrow's walk is a cruisy lap of The Tan Track at 10:30am meeting at The Shrine of Remembrance.
