Fronditha Care proudly honoured three new Benefactors at its recent Volunteer Recognition Ceremony, celebrating their enduring contribution and commitment to the organisation.

Mary Calombaris was acknowledged for her longstanding dedication and support. She, along with guests, were visibly touched by a special video message from her son, renowned chef George Calombaris, who reflected on his mother’s connection to Fronditha Care and the importance of giving back through philanthropy. Accepting the recognition she noted: “All I have done, and continue to do, comes from deep love for Fronditha Care and our elders - it gives me so much joy. I will continue to contribute as much as I can for as long as I am able to."

Founding member Dr Conn Constantinou, with his wife Pat Constantinou, were also appointed as Benefactors in recognition of their significant financial contribution since Fronditha Care’s establishment and for their continued support. Addressing attendees, Dr and Mrs Constantinou reflected on the organisation’s early years and the vision that helped shape Fronditha Care nearly five decades ago.

“Fronditha Care allowed elders to be themselves, to be respected and celebrated in their later years,” Dr Constantinou said. We are delighted to be part of this organisation which has continued to thrive and build on that vision."

Mr Kostas Livadaras President and Board Chair, said "The recognition of these Benefactors reflects Fronditha Care’s ongoing commitment to bestowing benefactor status to those whose leadership, generosity and financial support have played a defining role in the organisation’s history and its future. We are proud to work alongside them for the benefit of our elders."

Fronditha Care celebrated its more than 160 volunteers during National Volunteer Week 2026 at its annual recognition ceremony.

Faye Spiteri OAM, CEO, Fronditha Care, opening the recognition ceremony, shared her admiration for the contribution of all the volunteers saying, " You are all incredible and valued - you are the heart of our community. You give your time because you care deeply about our organisation and the elders we serve. Through every conversation, visit, activity and act of kindness, you bring comfort, dignity and connection to the lives of others. You complete our work and Fronditha Care would not be the organisation it is without you.”

This year, the ‘𝐕𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐘𝐞𝐚𝐫’ was jointly awarded to Fani Gountara and Georgia Stella, who, through their kindness and dedication, make a real difference to the volunteer program. They were recognised for their compassion, reliability and positive energy that they bring to the elders they visit alongside their open willingness to give time to help others.

The ‘𝐎𝐮𝐭𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐛𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐕𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐞𝐫 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦’ was awarded to Tasos Bardakos, who although in his 80s, visits Fronditha Care Thornbury almost daily and hosts the very popular ‘Kafenio’ with residents.

Christos Tsarpalas was recognised with the ‘𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐡 𝐕𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐞𝐫 𝐄𝐱𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐀𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝' as a young barber who volunteers his time and talent to help others. He was awarded for his generosity, patience and skill, which is so much more than giving great haircuts - he makes elders feel confident, respected and cared for.

Kostas Livadaras, President and Board Chair in closing the recognition ceremony, said, ”To every volunteer: thank you for the compassion, warmth and humanity you bring each day. Fronditha Care is stronger because of you and we are forever grateful for your contributions and the joy you bring our elders”

This National Palliative Care Week, we’re sharing the meaningful changes Fronditha Care is making to deliver more personalised and compassionate palliative care.

Palliative care is far more than clinical symptom management; it’s about ensuring our elders live as well as possible at this stage of life - surrounded by comfort, dignity and their loved ones.

To support this, we are piloting our new 'Eirini Palliative Care program' at our Clayton facility.

This holistic model complements clinical care by strengthening the emotional, cultural and spiritual support we provide. Our people are undergoing specialised training to deliver a range of non-clinical therapies, including:

- Legacy and meaning-making: Storytelling books and art therapy to celebrate their life.
- Sensory and comfort support: Including massage therapy to reduce physical and emotional tension.
- Culturally aligned rituals: Ensuring spiritual care remains at the heart of the experience.
- Family support: Guided navigation through CareLoop and counselling for families.
- Values-based planning: Advanced care planning that focuses on what matters most to the individual elder.

Over the next 12 months, we will evaluate the outcomes of this pilot with the aim of scaling up the program across our entire organisation.

Fronditha Care honoured with international recognition

Fronditha Care has been celebrated as a finalist at the 14th Asia Pacific Eldercare Innovation Awards (2026), one of the most prestigious global award ceremonies for the aged care sector.

The organisation was recognised in the “Health & Wellness Programme” category for its Thrive by Design- Health and Wellbeing Framework - a program delivered under the auspices of the Fronditha Care Foundation. Thrive by Design redefines its lifestyle program, moving beyond traditional models toward a proactive, personalised approach that focuses on Mind, Body and Soul and supports physical, emotional, cognitive, social, environmental and spiritual wellbeing of elders.

This achievement places Fronditha Care amongst the leaders of aged care services, reflecting its standing as a provider of excellence in a global community.

“Being recognised on an international stage is a significant milestone for Fronditha Care and a reflection of the investment we have made in improving how we care for our elders. It reinforces our commitment to delivering care that is clinically strong and at the same time deeply human and culturally meaningful. This recognition also affirms our vision to reimagine the ageing journey and support healthy ageing and longevity for our elders - continuing to lead with innovation, compassion and a deep commitment to the community we serve.”

- Kostas Livadaras, President & Faye Spiteri OAM, CEO

Stay Connected, Stay Engaged

Today marks 49 years since the founding of Fronditha Care.

In 1977, visionary leaders of the Greek community recognised the need for culturally appropriate aged care. From these humble beginnings, Fronditha Care has grown into a leading provider, grounded in compassion, dignity, and cultural understanding.
Today, with a dedicated team of more than 1,000 staff, we are privileged to support over 2,000 elders across our community services and five residential facilities in Victoria and New South Wales.

We extend our sincere gratitude to all who have been part of this journey, our volunteers, members, and staff, whose unwavering commitment continues to bring our vision to life.
Above all, we thank the elders and families who have entrusted us with their care over the past 49 years. It is a responsibility we honour every day.

As we look ahead, we remain committed to building on this proud legacy and continuing to deliver care that is not only clinically strong, but deeply human and culturally meaningful.

Stay Connected, Stay Engaged

Holy Week at Fronditha Care was a beautiful celebration of faith, culture and connection.

As we journeyed through Orthodox Easter -a deeply significant time in the Greek Orthodox faith reflecting on sacrifice, renewal and hope - our elders, families, volunteers, staff and their children came together.

From Palm Sunday services to the celebration of traditions throughout the week, including taking communion, our people came together to bake tsourekia and koulourakia, dye red eggs, decorate lambades, and take part in the annual Epitaphio decorating and procession.

On Good Friday, Kostas Livadaras, President of Fronditha Care hosted the Honorable Ged Kearney, Assistant Minister for Social Services and Prevention of Family Violence, Kat Theophanous, Member for Northcote, and Darebin Council Mayor Emily Dimitriadis at Fronditha Care Thornbury. They shared lunch with residents, Executive and Management staff and took part in Easter commemorations.

Faye Spiteri OAM, CEO, Fronditha Care shared, “These traditions keep us culturally and spiritually connected, while creating lasting memories for our elders, staff and future generations. As CEO of Fronditha Care, I am especially proud of how we continue to uphold and honour our Easter traditions across our organisation”

Stay Connected, Stay Engaged

Fronditha Care elders proudly took their place once again in this year’s Greek National Day parade at the Hellenic Memorial-standing strong, united and deeply connected to their heritage.

Joined by Fronditha Care staff and volunteers, they were part of a powerful gathering of thousands from across the Greek Australian community, all coming together to honour history, identity and culture.

CEO Faye Spiteri OAM and Director Dr Helen Kalaboukas marched side by side, with the 90 strong contingent, sharing in this deeply meaningful experience.

Faye Spiteri OAM reflected, “For our elders, this is more than a commemoration- it is a living connection to their past, a celebration of resilience and a moment of pride as they witness younger generations carry this tradition forward. Marching alongside our elders is both humbling and inspiring. Their strength, spirit and pride embody everything this day represents. It is a privilege to honour their memories and celebrate this enduring legacy together.”

While 25 March is always commemorated across our organisation, the parade remains an especially moving highlight - a powerful symbol of resilience, longevity and unwavering cultural pride.

Moments like these remind us that connection, identity and community only grow stronger with time.

Fronditha Care was proud to host “In Conversation” with Justice Chrissa Loukas-Karlsson as part of its annual event marking International Women’s Day.

In a thought-provoking and inspiring discussion led by Faye Spiteri OAM, CEO, Fronditha Care, Justice Loukas-Karlsson shared her reflections on leadership, resilience and the importance of embodying kindness and compassion in positions of authority. Drawing on her distinguished career, from representing vulnerable communities through Aboriginal legal services to serving as a judge and working in international justice at The Hague, Justice Loukas-Karlsson spoke about the responsibility that comes with power and the importance of using it for the good of others.

She also reflected on the Greek concept of filotimo, describing it as a guiding value that calls us to act with integrity, humility and compassion. She reminded the audience that leadership and service must always be grounded in humanity, noting that “the highest order of human virtue is kindness.”

With over 80 staff attending the event, the conversation sparked meaningful discussion about gender equality, self-care, leadership with purpose and the importance of finding balance in life. Speaking to this year’s International Women’s Day theme, “Balance the Scales,” Justice Loukas-Karlsson emphasised that true balance requires equality both in the workplace and at home.

Closing the event, Mrs Spiteri reflected on the importance of continuing to challenge barriers that limit opportunity, stating: “These barriers aren’t inevitable, they are built and therefore they can be dismantled. We must all play a role in creating a world where talent, leadership and opportunity are not limited by gender, while remembering to care for ourselves and for one another in order to balance the scales and reframe the path toward equity."

Fronditha Care sincerely thanks Justice Chrissa Loukas-Karlsson for sharing her wisdom, insight and inspiring message with our team.

There is something truly special about receiving a handwritten letter — the care in every word, the time taken to reflect, the quiet connection it creates.

Today, in celebration of National Letter to an Elder Day, Fronditha Care is proud to launch a meaningful new initiative that brings generations together.

In partnership with the Greek Community of Melbourne's Language & Culture Schools , Fronditha Care is establishing a unique pen pal program designed to foster connection, culture and conversation.

Over the coming months, ten Fronditha Care residents and ten students aged 13–16 will exchange letters, sharing stories, advice and personal reflections. The program creates a powerful bridge between generations — offering residents the opportunity to pass on years of wisdom and lived experience, while helping students strengthen their Greek language skills and deepen their appreciation of Hellenic heritage.

Fronditha Care CEO Faye Spiteri OAM described the initiative as both inspiring and impactful.

“This program cultivates meaningful relationships and strengthens our connection to heritage, language and culture — keeping the spirit of Hellenism alive,” she said.

“We look forward to sharing the beautiful stories that emerge from these exchanges.”

Principal of the Greek Community Schools, Maria Bakalidou, emphasised that the initiative goes beyond a classroom task.

“This isn’t simply an assignment for our students — it’s the beginning of an important partnership,” Ms Bakalidou said.
“Through these letters, our students step beyond the classroom walls and connect with lived history, culture and community.”

The pen pal program forms an important part of Fronditha Care’s Health and Wellbeing Framework, which focuses on:

- Encouraging intergenerational relationships
- Strengthening community connection
- Supporting mental health and emotional wellbeing
- Promoting meaningful engagement and a sense of purpose

By bringing together young people and elders through the timeless art of letter writing, this initiative celebrates connection, preserves culture, and reminds us all of the enduring power of a handwritten word.
