A lot can change in a team over a short period of time.

New faces, new roles, bigger projects, shifting routines - but one thing we’ve really appreciated lately is how everyone continues to show up for each other through it all.

Between collaborating across clients, after-work hangs, coffee runs, chaotic group chats, and our upcoming snow trip to celebrate the hard work that’s gone into this season of business, it’s been a reminder that culture is built in the small moments just as much as the big ones.

At Social Star, we care a lot about the work we produce, but we care just as much about the people behind it.

And honestly, we think that’s what makes the difference.

And the star of the month goes to…

Adnan!

After Cassie took out February’s Employee of the Month, Adnan Hussain has officially gone back-to-back and claimed BOTH March and April. That’s elite form.

Adnan has been absolutely everywhere lately - balancing high workload, onboarding BYOB, another job, and somehow still showing up every day with energy, professionalism, and a smile on his face (plus the occasional questionable joke).

From managing complex accounts and navigating scope creep, to bringing fresh ideas and positive energy into the team, Adnan has consistently stepped up wherever needed. The best part? He does it all without complaining and always with a willingness to learn, improve, and support the people around him.

One thing the team kept mentioning in the votes was how resourceful and dependable he’s been. Whether it’s clients, internal projects, or helping the team through busy periods - Adnan just gets stuck in.

Also… being described as “a TANK” in the voting might be the highest honour anyone has received at Social Star.

Congrats Adnan 👏 Well deserved.

"What you say in advertising is more important than how you say it." - David Ogilvy

He said this decades ago, while most brands still haven't figured it out.

Today, I'm going to say something that'll annoy a few designers - Your brand doesn't have a design problem, it has a words problem.

I've sat across enough briefs to know that most founders obsess over the wrong thing. The logo, the colour palette, or the most common hump - the font. And meanwhile the copy on their landing page reads like it was written by a very polite robot with nothing interesting to say.

Here's what nobody tells you - there are decades of cognitive science sitting behind the words that actually make people stop, trust, and buy. And most of it never makes it into a single marketing brief.

Loss aversion. Processing fluency. Social proof. Anchoring. Isolation. Open loops.

These aren't dirty tricks.

They're biases that our brain has which impact our decision making. And once you understand them, you'll never be able to look at a bad piece of copy the same way again.

I've broken all six down in the carousel - what the bias is, why it works, and what it means for the words your brand is putting out into the world.

Swipe through to read, and maybe save it as well? These could come in handy the next time you're staring at a blank document wondering why your last campaign looked great, but did absolutely nothing.

And if you spot one you've already been using without realising - drop it in the comments. Curious to know.

Most businesses can't figure out why their marketing looks right but doesn't convert. After years working as a designer and now in marketing, I think I know why.

Here’s a perspective on design as a marketing tool from our resident design specialist Maahi, in this carousel she breaks down the things she wishes both sides (design & marketing) knew. From visual hierarchy and typography psychology to brand consistency and why your brief is probably killing your designer's best work.

Design and marketing are two sides of the same coin, most teams treat them like separate departments. The result? Campaigns that look polished but feel off. Brands that are consistent but completely forgettable. Content that gets made but never quite lands.

Whether you're a small business owner doing your own branding, a marketer working with creatives, or a founder trying to figure out why your content isn't converting, this one's for you.

Let us know what resonates and what you’ve seen yourself in marrying design and marketing.

Our star of the month ⭐

Cassie stepped up in February to execute and manage tasks across multiple client accounts while Pearly was away, ensuring work continued smoothly and deadlines were met, all while continuing to grow in her role, which she only started in December.

Her achievement? Being recognised as February’s Employee of the Month, reflecting her dedication and commitment to the team.

Her small win? Stepping into client meetings with increasing confidence, learning how to guide conversations and deliver clear updates with the support and mentorship of the account managers (special shoutout to Sabari for the guidance along the way).

Her challenge was balancing time across multiple tasks without letting stress or burnout take over. She’s been working through this by becoming more intentional with prioritisation, breaking work into manageable steps, and recognising when to pause and reset to maintain focus and quality.

Her advice: Be kind to yourself when things don’t always go exactly as planned. What matters most is showing up, putting in your best effort, and continuing to learn along the way. Progress is built through consistency.

Congratulations, Cassie! Your willingness to step up, learn, and support the team makes a real impact. 👏

One of the biggest traps in professional services is becoming the busiest person in your own business.

If you’re the founder, consultant, doctor, or accountant, then you are the product. Which means your time is the most valuable and the most in demand.

But when you’re stuck in admin, follow-ups, manual processes, and operational tasks, you’re not building, but you’re maintaining.

At Social Star, we look at business automation through a strategic lens. The first step isn’t buying new tools, it’s identifying the blockages. Where is time being lost? Where are decisions delayed? Where are you the bottleneck?

Then we design systems and automation that remove friction. So digital tools handle the repeatable work, and you focus on growth, leadership, and client impact.

Automation isn’t about replacing people.
It’s about protecting your most valuable resource - time.
