ASV is committed to helping people and their families suffering from the effects of addiction.
Our addiction treatment options are not only accessible but affordable, flexible and evidenced-based. We believe that recovery from addiction is possible and we can help you to achieve positive and sustainable change in your life.
Addiction Solutions Victoria started from the knowledge that recovery from addiction was possible and a desire to share that hope with anyone seeking it.
At ASV, we believe that given the right set of circumstance, opportunities and supports, that any person seeking a solution to substance misuse or dependence (addiction) can rebuild their life and achieve a sustainable recovery.
ASV is registered as a charity with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC) and is a Consumer Affairs Victoria registered not-for-profit incorporated association.
We are governed by a Board of committed family members, community members, professionals and people in recovery from addiction.
In addition, ASV is an Associated Member of the Institute of Community Directors (AMICDA), a member of the Mental Health Academy (MHA), a member of the Association for Addiction Professionals (NAADAC) and registered with the Australian Counselling Association.
The ASV Board is committed to providing genuine recovery opportunities and knows that sustainable recovery from addiction is possible.
‘Our son was like a stranger to us – addiction drove him to behave in ways we never expected. But we never gave up and now he’s loving and caring again. We’ve got our boy back.’
Addiction is ‘a chronic, relapsing brain disease that is characterised by compulsive drug seeking and use, despite negative harmful consequences’.
NIDA (National Institute of Drug Abuse)
These consequences can include problems with physical health, psychological health, and social stability; work; family; finances; legal issues and the breach of the person’s belief and value systems.
‘I knew my life was spiralling out of control, I lost my job and I kept missing really important events like my mum’s birthday party, but it didn’t matter what people said or thought about me, whether I felt ashamed or sad or even happy, I kept using drugs. I remember when my family offered me an ultimatum, them or the drugs. I chose the drugs, with relief.’
Addiction is like heart disease or diabetes—sometimes it’s linked with lifestyle choices, sometimes it’s part of a family’s genetic heritage and other times it seems to come from nowhere.
And just like diabetes, addiction must be treated, managed, and monitored over a person’s lifetime.
Addiction Solutions Victoria offers personalised affordable addiction treatment and recovery support packages delivered in people’s own homes where they feel safe and their privacy is protected.
We understand that seeking treatment can be a difficult process with the high cost of private rehabilitation centres and long waiting lists in the public sector. Our aim is to help people seek treatment when and where they need it as we know that when people ask for help you have to act immediately otherwise you may miss the opportunity.
The ASV approach is based on the Living in Balance program developed by Danya International and distributed by Hazelden (USA). It has been soundly evaluated, is endorsed by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) and listed in the US registry of evidence-based programs and practices (NREPP).
Jason Bowman, Manager of ASV has been working and managing services in the alcohol and other drug sector for 11 years in public and private settings.
‘I wanted to offer people and their families an affordable program I believed in. The Living in Balance program, delivered by people with a substantial understanding of addiction and family dynamics and offering links to local community resources, really works. I have the privilege of seeing people recover every day of the week.’
