What is capsular contracture?

Any time a foreign object is inserted into the body, a reaction occurs. The body forms a protective capsule or layer of scar tissue around the foreign material.

In the case of silicone breast implants, it is hoped that this capsule will always be thin and soft. However, this is not always the case...

Our top tips for a smooth and comfortable recovery:

1. Nutrition: Prioritise nourishing your body with healthy and whole foods. Opt for nutrient-rich meals that promote healing and provide essential vitamins and minerals. Make sure you stay hydrated throughout the day.

2. Assistance: Ask for help from your friends and/or family members. Having a helping hand and companionship at your place can make a significant difference during your recovery journey.

3. Relaxation: Avoid pushing yourself too hard during the recovery phase. Allow ample time for rest as it plays a vital role in the healing process. Indulging in a good book, YouTube, Netflix Marathon, or all of the above is highly encouraged!

4. Planning: Before your surgery, take the time to plan. Arrange for help with meals, work responsibilities, household chores, and any other personal tasks. This preparation will relieve stress and allow you to focus on your recovery.

Feel free to DM, call or email us if you require extra assistance during your recovery journey. We're here to make your recovery process as smooth and pleasant as possible.

Generally, scars will mature and settle over time with little active involvement on the part of the patient, however this is a gradual process and can take up to 18 months.

From the 1-month mark post-operatively, gentle massage and oils such as Vitamin E and silicone treatments may slightly hasten this process, although after time, the results may be similar without these treatments.

Silicone treatments are available from your chemist in either cream or strips form. The strips are applied to the scar with tape.

Troublesome scars such as hypertrophic or keloid scars may require further intervention.

Don't hesitate to reach out and ask questions or talk to us about your scar concerns. Book a consultation or DM.

While ruptured silicone breast implants can cause breast pain or changes in the contour or shape of the breast, the silicone does not typically travel to lymph nodes as older implant types did.

This is not a life-threatening situation.

An imaging test, such as an MRI or ultrasound, can show whether your implant has ruptured.

If a rupture occurs, we recommend surgical removal. A new implant can usually be inserted during the same operation. If you no longer want breast implants, we may opt for a breast lift or other corrective surgery.

Reach out to us if you suspect your breast implant(s) might have ruptured. We will discuss your individual situation to find the most suitable treatment option for you

Breast Augmentation (Augmentation Mammoplasty): What are some of the benefits?

1. Volume: Breast volume can fluctuate due to aging, pregnancy, weight loss, and breastfeeding. Breast augmentation can increase the volume of the breasts.

2. Symmetry: Uneven breasts are common, and they can make it difficult to find clothes that fit well. Breast augmentation can help balance the size of your breasts, creating a symmetrical appearance.

Note: Significant breast asymmetry may qualify for rebates from Medicare or Private Health Insurance. Book a consultation to find out if this is the case for you.

3. Shape: Breast augmentation can improve sagging or tubular breast shapes, giving your breasts a fuller, perkier look.

Which one of these benefits is most important to you? 1, 2, 3, or all of the above?

Please feel free to reach out and discuss your breast augmentation needs with us. We are here to help you make choices that align with your personal goals.

If you are a smoker, you will need to stop smoking for at least six weeks before your surgery to lower your risk of serious complications and to heal more quickly.

This is because smoking:

1. reduces the amount of oxygen in your blood needed to repair wounds and build new tissues
2. raises your risk of blood clots as it thickens your blood
3. reduces your body’s infection fighting power
4. has chemicals that can increase the amount of inflammation, or swelling
