Restoring wings to little angels. 🕊️
They are children. We call them angels, but they have witnessed horrors that no human, let alone a child, should ever have to see.
Recently, I had the privilege of spending a full day with a group of children displaced by bombardment. For nearly five hours, we moved through three different creative activities, creating a pocket of safety amidst the chaos of their reality.
From making kites to colouring a collective mural and tracing their own hands to express their likes and dislikes, the day was about more than just art. It was about agency.
When children face such overwhelming experiences, the "horror" often gets stuck in the body. Through these hours of play and creation, we offered them a language to express what is unspeakable and a moment to reclaim a piece of their stolen childhood.
To see them engage, fly their kites, and even smile despite everything they have endured is the purest definition of resilience. They are not just survivors; they are teachers of hope.
We must never look away from their pain, and we must never stop working to give them back their safety.
A heartfelt thank you to Centre for Muslim Wellbeing, Foundation House, Dr. Khaldoon Fahmi , Sara Mohsen for organising this day and for your tireless dedication to supporting these families. A huge thank you to all the volunteers who dedicated their day to supporting these families! I couldn’t have done it without you 😀
I also look forward to continuing this vital work alongside Tahani Kassem and Rasha Abbas from PARA next year. There is so much more to be done, together.
