Vale Dr Rosalind Terry (1 July 1940 - 31 January 2025).

In an era when women's foray into medicine was uncommon, Rosalind emerged as an inspiration.

Born in 1940, she was not only the first in her family to attend university but also a trailblazer for women in the medical field. Her journey, rich with challenges and triumphs, is a testament to her unwavering belief, determination and the invaluable support of her advocates.

It all started with a bold step by her mother, who secretly arranged for her to sit a scholarship exam for Methodist Ladies’ College (MLC) in Melbourne.

The Women Deliver conferences are held every three years and bring together over 6,000 advocates, decision-makers, funders and experts to discuss critical global issues, and advance reform and investment in gender equality.

For the first time ever, this powerful convening is coming to the Oceanic Pacific region – creating a space to bring together feminists across the region to progress gender equality and women’s health.

Dr. Gerty Cori, the first woman in history to win a Nobel Prize in Medicine, was born on this day in 1896. Her groundbreaking research paved the way for understanding and developing treatments for diabetes and other metabolic diseases. Even after discovering the Cori Cycle, one of the body's most important metabolic pathways, however, she was still paid 1/10 the salary her husband and research partner, Carl, received by Washington University in St. Louis. To read more about this extraordinary yet little-known scientist who revolutionized biochemistry despite facing deeply entrenched sexism throughout her career, visit https://www.amightygirl.com/blog?p=25497

Gerty Cori is among the pioneering women of science featured in "Women in Science: 50 Fearless Pioneers Who Changed the World" for ages 9 and up (https://www.amightygirl.com/women-in-science) and “Headstrong: 52 Women Who Changed Science – and The World" for teens and adults alike (https://www.amightygirl.com/headstrong-52-women)
