TMJD or 'Tempromandibular Joint Dysfunction' is a common disorder of the lateral jaw joint. The tempromandibular joint is a sliding hinge joint, connecting our jaw (mandible bone) to our skull. Overuse of this joint by way of bruxism (teeth grinding), arthritis, injury or genetics can create inflammation of the joint causing pain, difficulty and painful chewing, locking of the jaw joint and difficulty opening the jaw widely.
Anika's Remedial Therapy offers a unique TMJD therapy using both soft tissue therapy and also microcurrent /nanocurrent technology. This therapy generates a low electrical current that stimulates the body to produce ATP in the affected joint. The ATP molecules relax the muscle tissue, releasing lactic acid and reducing pain in the immediate area. A highly effective treatment.

Are tight calves and neck pain, related?
What do tight calves and neck pain have in common?
A lot actually...
Underneath our feet, calves, hamstrings, lower back, upper back, neck and even our scalp muscles are all interconnected as a line of connective tissue/fascia called the 'Superficial Back Line'. This line helps the body to maintain an upright posture. However this line is also under constant compression and it can become too tight and effect the musculature further up the chain.
Do your calf stretches daily to offer some much needed relief to your calves, hamstrings, glutes, back, shoulders and neck...

Sleeping in one of these two positions can be 'extremely' helpful for people with lower back pain.
When you sleep on your back, your lower back flattens, resulting in spinal flexion.
It is important to maintain a neutral spine position whenever possible.
Pillows can help so much!
Try a pillow between your legs if you lay on your side or a pillow under your knees if you sleep facing up.
You have one back to carry you through your entire life, look after it and it will look after you....

'FROZEN SHOULDER' is a condition characterised by stiffness and pain in the shoulder joint.
Treatment usually consists of remedial soft tissue therapy, steroid injections into the joint capsule and exercises to improve range of movement.
Within my practice I treat frozen shoulder using trigger point release technique, ultrasound diathermy, deep tissue friction technique and controlled stretches. In most cases, if treatment is commenced at stage 1 or 2, treatments are highly effective and progress is achieved quickly.
Stage 3 frozen shoulder is more complex and can require 4-6 treatments to return the shoulder to functional range of motion again.

'LOWER BACK PAIN' isn't always related to a spinal or a back issue. More often than not I continue to see patients presenting with a referral pattern from their 'glutes' or more specifically their 'piriformis' muscle. The piriformis muscle is a triangle shaped muscle and lays 10cm deeply into the gluteus musculature. I offer a piriformis release technique that is key to releasing locked glutes and in turn frees up back pain. A highly effective treatment!

COVID lockdown rules across Australia have overlooked the needs of people who are dependent on professional remedial massage therapists, or myotherapists to maintain their mobility and wellbeing.

β€˜The lockdown rules for Victoria, Western Australia and Northern Territory exclude remedial massage therapists and myotherapists in the list of complementary or allied health therapists that can provide massage,’ Ann Davey, Massage & Myotherapy CEO, said today.

'REMEDIAL CUPPING THERAPY' 🌱

I have recently completed a masterclass in muscular skeletal 'Cupping Therapy'. So much new research has shown updated scientific evidence of invaluable healing and health benefits using this modality. Ranging from removal of the by-products of sports and muscle fatigue/stress to diagnosing stagnancy of injuries that are years old surfacing from the muscle bellies into the epidermal and dermal layers on the skin.

Remedial Cupping Therapy can be included into your remedial treatments if deemed beneficial to your particular injury or muscle pain issue. No additional cost.
