Red light therapy works by interacting with the mitochondria — often referred to as the “powerhouses” of the cell.

Inside the mitochondria is an enzyme called cytochrome c oxidase, which plays a key role in cellular energy production. Red and near infrared light can stimulate this enzyme, helping the mitochondria produce more ATP (adenosine triphosphate) — the primary energy currency of the body.

In skincare and wellness, the theory is essentially:

2. Mitochondria absorb the photons
3. ATP production increases
