📊 New research highlights an important challenge in medical weight management.
A large systematic review published in the BMJ found that after stopping weight-management medications, people regained weight at an average rate of ~0.4 kg per month, with many cardiometabolic improvements gradually returning to baseline within about 1.4 years.
While medications can be a helpful tool, the findings reinforce a key principle in obesity care: long-term weight management requires durable strategies and ongoing support.
For many people with obesity, metabolic and bariatric surgery can provide a more sustained approach to weight loss and improvement in obesity-related conditions such as:
• Type 2 diabetes
• High blood pressure
• Sleep apnoea
• High cholesterol
At our clinic, surgery is never a “quick fix.” It’s part of a comprehensive, multidisciplinary program that includes medical assessment, nutrition guidance, psychological support, and long-term follow-up to help patients achieve lasting results.
If you’re exploring your options for managing weight and improving your health, our team is here to guide you through evidence-based pathways that support long-term success.
