An adult’s secret weapon to staying healthy.

Here’s a quick checklist of vaccines adults often need:

🔸Flu shot – Every year, because influenza doesn’t take a holiday
🔸COVID-19 booster – Stay protected against severe illness
🔸Tdap (Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis) – Don’t let whooping cough crash your party
🔸Shingles vaccine – Especially if you’re over 50
🔸MMR booster – Measles, mumps, rubella… yep, adults sometimes need it too
🔸Travel vaccines – Going overseas? Your GP will tailor what you need

Why adults need vaccines too:
▫️Protect yourself from nasty illnesses
▫️Keep family and friends safe
▫️Boost your superhero immunity
Pop into the clinic and check your vaccine status—your future self will thank you!

Okay, let’s clear something up—herd immunity isn’t about cows grazing together.

It’s about people protecting each other from illness!

Here’s why it matters:

Protects the vulnerable – Babies, older adults, or people with weak immune systems rely on everyone else being vaccinated.

Stops outbreaks – The more people immune, the harder it is for viruses to spread.
Keeps life normal – Fewer infections = fewer sick days, fewer disruptions, and more fun for everyone.

Think of it like community superhero powers: every vaccine is a shield, and together, we’re unstoppable.

So this week, check your vaccine status, book that booster, and help your “herd” stay safe!

Vaccines Aren’t Just for Kids… And Here’s Why! ⤵️

Sure, you got your shots as a kid—but did you know vaccines are for life?

That’s right: adults need them too!

Here’s a quick reminder of why staying up-to-date is so important:
Protect yourself – Flu, COVID, shingles, whooping cough… adults can catch these too!

Protect those around you – Babies, elderly family, and friends rely on your immunity.
Keep your brain and body happy – Some vaccines help prevent complications like pneumonia and stroke.

Some vaccines you had as a kid need a boost later in life. Think of it as keeping your superhero shield fully charged.

So this World Immunisation Day, ask yourself:
Have I checked my vaccine status lately?
Am I due for a booster?

Book in with your GP today and stay protected—because adulting includes vaccines too!

•World Parkinson’s Day•
On the 11th of April it was World Parkinson’s Day and we raise awareness of Parkinson’s disease —a progressive neurological condition that can affect movement, coordination, and daily life.

Early signs can include tremors, stiffness, slowed movement, and changes in balance.
While there is currently no cure, early diagnosis and ongoing care can make a meaningful difference in managing symptoms and maintaining quality of life.

At Northcote Medical, we’re here to support patients at every stage —whether you have concerns about symptoms, need a check-up, or are managing a long-term condition.

If you or a loved one have noticed changes that don’t feel quite right, don’t ignore them.
Speak with your GP —early assessment matters.

Together, we can improve awareness, support patients, and work towards better care.

•Meet Dr Dani•

Before joining Northcote Medical, Dani worked as a plastic, reconstructive and hand surgery registrar. She has a strong interest in skin cancer management, skin checks and minor surgical procedures. She also draws on her earlier career in allied health, providing expertise in diagnosing and managing musculoskeletal injuries.

Her favourite part of being at Northcote Medical is working with the passionate and collaborative team, and the respect they have for a good coffee!

Outside of work, Dani jokes that she “collects hobbies” — she’s into hiking, road cycling, pottery, gardening, sketching, cooking, travel, and is forever trying to get better at surfing.
On days when the waves look a bit too ambitious, she’ll still head out… with a boogie board and flippers instead!

She describes herself as organised but definitely a big-picture thinker. A well-timed truth is what makes her laugh the most, and when asked what her favourite book is, she couldn’t choose because there are simply too many! If she had to name one, today’s pick would be Endurance by Alfred Lansing.

Dr Dani is currently taking new patients.
