Happy Summer Solstice Beauties! ☀️ May this New Year around the Sun bring you everything you desire and much, much more! 💫

The Summer Solstice is the longest day and shortest night of the year. It is the day of the fullest solar illumination.

🌞 How it affects you:
This is the peak of the earth cycle, with a similar energy to the full moon. And ovulation. Peak outward energy, full bloom, full expression.

Elevated mood, celebratory, full expression, desire to be outside, social time.

Difficulty sleeping, very short night, reduced ability to rest.

☯️ In Chinese medicine, Summer is the Fire element and the emotion of JOY. When out of balance, we can feel panic or anxiety.

🎊 What to do on the Summer Solstice:
Gather with friends and have a party

🕯Summer Solstice prayers:
Give thanks for everything that has come to fullness in your life. I like to light a candle.

Welcome to this World.

This week, we welcomed this beautiful little angel. She was clearly eager to be earthside with her parents as the delivery was quick and 5 weeks early. It is such an honour to walk besides couples’ conception journey.

Wishing this special family many blessings ✨️

Here we are in the midst of Winter ❄ Just as nature retreats inwards to Replenish itself you may be feeling the pull to do the same. It is a time to slow down a little, keep warm and nourish ourselves.

Syncing our life with the seasons is such a powerful and easy thing to do.

Some things you can do to embrace the season include:

• warming nourishing foods: such as soups and stews, baked vegetables. Remember to eat seasonal foods available in your area. Try avoiding cold foods.

• Warm drinks and teas. Swap the smoothies for soups. Chai is perfect for this time of the year. I am enjoying lemon, ginger and honey tea.

• Keep warm. Get out the hot water bottles and heat packs. Rug up and wear warm clothing, scarves, beanies, boots, baths etc. And avoid walking bare foot on cold floors. When exercising don’t skip warm ups.

• Earlier nights. Get to bed earlier and get those 💤 This is a hard one for me but I always feel great with an extra hour or 2 of sleep.

Deep down we know what our soul needs right now…

Modern life busyness and everyday stress tends to disconnect us from our true needs. My work often revolves around helping you listen to the messages your body is whispering to you. However, when the messages go unheard, they tend to get louder and uncomfortable.

You can gently help yourself come back into alignment by asking yourself if you need any of the following:

✨ rest
✨ movement
✨ less commitments
✨ more fluids
✨ less stimulants
✨ nourishing foods
✨ connection
✨ fresh air
✨ earlier nights
✨ earlier rise
✨ self-care
✨ alone time
✨ reflection
✨ introspection
✨ setting boundaries

🦋 The Golden month:

How different life and our society would be if we honoured new mothers with the gift of the caring for them during the first 40 days. In many cultures it is something that is still practised, however it has been lost in most Western societies due to modernisation and a fast paced lifestyle.

Post-partum care can include:

feeding the mother warm nourishing foods
keeping her warm and rested
relying on a system of care during her postpartum period.

The book ‘the first forty days - The Essential Art of Nourishing the New Mother’ by Heng Ou is full of inspirational ideas and amazing recipes to help support a new mum in those early days of motherhood.

In my clinic I tend to see mothers who are experiencing insomnia, excessive night sweats, hair loss, anxiety or headaches. I am able to support them and provide them care by giving them moxibustion, acupuncture, chinese medicine herbs and dietary advice. We work out ways to implement the Golden month even if the mother is a few years postpartum as it’s never too late to experience giving to and nourishing yourself.
