The highly anticipated 160km Grampians Peaks Trail through Gariwerd / Grampians National Park has officially opened, and just in time for big summer adventures!

The mammoth 13 day / 12 night hike begins at Mt Zero in the north and heads south up and over several summits, including Gar / Mt Difficult, Redman Bluff, and Mt Abrupt, passes through Halls Gap and across Major Mitchell Plateau, all before finishing up at Dunkeld. WE’RE GETTING BIKE LANES!

One of the frequent issues cyclists raise with me is gaps in infrastructure – areas in the road network where bike lanes end, or just aren’t safe.

With so many cyclists in our community, especially students and families travelling between school campuses, it’s an issue that’s been a priority of mine since I was elected.

The 20 km pop-up links will enhance and connect existing routes, including Footscray City Primary School , Footscray High School's Pilgrim campus, Victoria University, Melbourne Australia campuses, shopping areas, and public transport options across the area. They will also link to existing off-road routes, including the Sunshine Trail, Maribyrnong River Trail, and the Footscray Road connection.

Public input will inform the design, with works expected for completion in April 2022. For more information and to have your say on the project, visit http://vicroads.vic.gov.au/bikingaroundmelbourne.

*EVENT UPDATE - POSTPONED*

Following Sunday’s announcement from the Victorian Government regarding the state's roadmap out of lockdown, we are unfortunately advising that the 2021 GWM IRONMAN 70.3 Melbourne will no longer be taking place as planned on 14 November.

The timings and restrictions within the roadmap continue to have a significant impact on our ability to prepare and deliver this event, as well as our athletes’ ability to train for it. This is obviously not the result any of us wanted, especially given the cancellation of the 2020 event, and we absolutely share in the disappointment and frustration of our community.

Having anticipated this possibility, our team had already been working behind the scenes to secure a new date for the 2021 event and are pleased to advise that the 2021 GWM IRONMAN 70.3 Melbourne has been rescheduled to Sunday 20 March 2022.

All registered athletes have been sent an email detailing their options given this announcement. If you are one of these athletes and do not receive an email by Thursday 23 September, please let us know.

We are sure you’ll understand that rescheduling an event of this scale does not happen easily. The team and our stakeholders have come together to lock in this new date and will continue to work hard to ensure the best possible race day experience.

With Government restrictions having had a major impact on the ability for so many to train as planned we hope that the extended preparation time will be welcomed. We’d like to thank our IRONMAN community for their ongoing support and understanding. Stay safe and stay strong and we will see you soon.

APC 4 Pillars of Health & Fitness

At APC we believe that there are four key pillars to a healthy lifestyle – these are the basis of our approach. For every person the four pillars are the same, but the individual experience is finding balance between all four is really personal and will vary largely from person to person. Creating a true balance is difficult and requires a lot of testing and listening to your body and how it feels day to day. Once you have found your balance there is nothing stopping you from creating the healthy lifestyle that nourishes your body and soul.

EAT WELL

Nutrition is the key. The right food is the energy source that will fuels our day-to-day activity, spark our brains into gear and is a major influence of the amount and quality of our hormone secretion.

Every person differs in their tolerance to carbohydrates, fat and protein, and the amounts of each of these macronutrients. There is no one size fits all approach. However, the main rule we have at APC is if you are gaining fat, feeling tired and are low on energy then you need to change your daily diet. The best way to do that is to speak to a nutritionist or dietician. Fuel your body with what it needs to obtain a healthy lifestyle.
