If you’re regularly drinking cold drinks and eating cold foods: this is for you!

In Chinese Medicine, cold foods and drinks are ideally only something we have rarely (even in the warmer months).

Why?

Because when we consume cold things, the body has to heat them up to body temperature BEFORE digestion can happen.

This costs energy on top of the energy is costs to digest the food in the first place.

A once-off occurrence is no big deal - your digestive fire can handle this!

The bigger problem is when we put our digestive fire under pressure by eating and drinking cold things most of the time.

Think about it like adding something cold to an already simmering post - it stops the simmering and takes a bit to get going again. If you keep adding cold things, it takes a lot for the simmering to start again.
This is the same as your digestive system.

Overtime, if the digestive fire is weakened, its much harder to do much good with the food we eat at all - hello absorption issues/bloating after eating/poor appetite!

So if you’re a smoothie for breakfast, salad for lunch kind of person, start to make some swaps and get some warm food into you especially at breakfast time.

And if you need extra support, we love supporting our patient’s digestion to be 10/10. Book in that appointment and let’s get started!

Does your digestion do weird things when you’re stressed?

Stress is a major factor is basically all health concerns, because a) modern life is rife with it, and b) it has a profound effect on the body.

In Chinese Medicine, stress mostly affects the Liver (energetically rather than just anatomically). The Liver’s job is to make sure Qi (i.e. life force energy) is moving smoothly throughout the body, which necessarily ensures all bodily functions are happily occurring (including digestion, mood and the menstrual cycle).

BUT, if we are stressed, the Qi can get stuck, which makes it a lot harder for the Liver to do its job.

One flow-on effect is that the digestive system gets put under the pump, and we might see symptoms like alternating constipation and loose stools, bloating, poor appetite or nausea/vomiting.

If you feel like your digestion is impacted by your stress, let’s support both with acupuncture and herbs - both can do wonders for soothing the nervous system and strengthening the digestive system. Weird, stress-induced digestive symptoms be GONE!

I love supporting my patients to feel calm and centred, as well as having 10/10 digestion!

Have you recently been told that your semen analysis results are no so great?

It can be really hard to hear that you and your partner’s ability to have a baby is being affected by your s***m, especially given that we have been told for a long time that fertility is the responsibility of the female and that a male can be fertile no matter his age.

The good news is that there is a lot of scope for supporting male fertility with Chinese Medicine, and acupuncture.

And, because s***m production takes approximately three months (~74 days), change can happen relatively quickly (but won’t happen overnight). Think about it as prepping the s***m to run a marathon!.You would not try to run 42.2km without some prep. And let’s be real: the journey that s***m make to get to the egg is, relatively, very much like a marathon! A three month run-up (pun intended), is absolutely necessary!

Let’s get started - I’m excited to work with you!

During our fertile years, our menstrual cycle is one of the clearest windows into our overall health.

💃 I truly believe it’s one of our SUPERPOWERS as WOMEN – we get a monthly report card on how we’re going. How incredible is that!?

Maybe your period arrives earlier or later than usual.
Maybe you’re experiencing more pain, a heavier flow or passing clots this cycle.
Maybe you notice headaches, fatigue, or irritability before your bleed.

These aren’t random inconveniences.
They’re messages from your body.
They’re invitations to take notice and support.

In Chinese Medicine, we listen closely to these changes. Your cycle is constantly communicating with you — letting you know when something has shifted and needs attention.

I love helping my patients understand their menstrual patterns and what they mean. More importantly, I love using acupuncture and herbal medicine to support my patients in regulating their cycle, reducing pain, easing PMS, and stabilising their emotions.

If your cycle feels out of sync, you don’t have to navigate it alone.

❤️Bao Mai: The Heart–Womb Connection ❤️

Bao Mai n Chinese Medicine is often called the “uterus channel.”

It’s thought to connect the heart and the reproductive system, showing how emotional wellbeing can influence fertility.

When this connection is balanced:
• Stress and anxiety are less likely to interfere with cycles
• Emotional resilience supports conception
• The body can feel safe and receptive

In other words, fertility isn’t just physical — your emotions, heart, and womb are connected. 💚

Today we welcome the Lunar New Year and the beginning of the Year of the Horse.

In Chinese Medicine, the new year is more than a calendar date. It is a shift in energy. A time to reset, reflect, and set intention for the months ahead.

The Horse symbolises movement, vitality, freedom and forward momentum. It invites us to step confidently into the year, trust our instincts, and take aligned action toward what truly matters.

This is a beautiful time to support your body through the seasonal transition. To nourish your nervous system. To strengthen your Qi. To clear what no longer serves you and create space for growth.

Whether that looks like prioritising rest, committing to regular treatments, or setting clearer boundaries around your health, small consistent choices create lasting change.

May this year bring you strength, clarity, and balanced energy.

Happy Lunar New Year from all of us at Qi Medicine. 🧧
