We are changing our policy around mask wearing.
The current Department of Health statement is as follows

We recommend wearing a mask:

: for at least 7 days if you have COVID-19 and:
you need to leave home
you are indoors, or
you cannot maintain physical distance
: if you are a close contact and you need to leave home
: if you are visiting or working in a sensitive setting such as hospitals and aged care facilities.

As such the wearing of masks will be voluntary rather than mandatory. Of course we will continue to encourage the wearing of masks in our facility and appreciate our patients continued support of this.

interHealth Medical Clinic are so pleased to welcome Dr Allena Cheong to our Team. Allena is specialising in General Practice and is joining our Team as a GP Registrar.

Allena graduated from Flinders University in 2017. She spent a number of years gaining experience in various hospital specialties in South Australia and Victoria prior to commencing GP training. She completed a Diploma of Obstetrics and Gynaecology in 2022. Allena enjoys all aspects of General Practice and has a special interest in women’s health and antenatal care, aged care, paediatrics and mental health.

Outside of work Allena loves to spend time with her family. She does pilates regularly and loves to cook, read and explore the outdoors.

How to prevent skin cancer

● Whenever the UV reaches 3 or above, follow the five simple steps of sun protection
- ‘Slip, Slop, Slap, Seek and Slide’:

○ Slip on protective clothing
○ Slop on SPF30 (or higher) broad-spectrum, water-resistant sunscreen
○ Slap on a broad-brimmed hat
○ Seek shade
○ Slide on sunglasses

National Skin Cancer Action Week - 20-26 November

What we know about skin cancer

● Skin cancer is Australia’s most common, most costly, and one of the most preventable cancers
● Australia has the highest rate of skin cancer in the world
● It is estimated that in 2022, 17,756 melanomas will have been diagnosed in Australia
● Currently, two in three Australians will be diagnosed with skin cancer in their lifetime
● Every year, over 2,000 people are expected to die from skin cancer
● It’s estimated that almost twice as many men as women will die from melanoma in 2022 (825 and 456 respectively)
● Over-exposure to UV radiation causes 95% of melanomas, the deadliest form of skin cancer, meaning it’s almost entirely preventable
● Sun protection isn’t just needed at the beach or by the pool - you can get sunburnt and skin damage while you play, hang out the washing, walk the dog or enjoy an outdoor BBQ. and even if you visit the nail salon
