This Christmas, Heal Seal is proud to sponsor and express our deep gratitude to the remarkable Victorian State Emergency Services (SES) volunteers from the Chelsea Unit, who have featured us in the Phoenix magazine.

The Phoenix, a publication by, and for the Victorian SES Volunteers Association, celebrates the extraordinary work of these everyday heroes who dedicate their time to keeping our communities safe.

Your courage, resilience, and commitment are truly inspiring. As a proud supporter, we are honoured to stand alongside you and recognise your invaluable contribution.

From all of us at Heal Seal, we wish you a Merry Christmas and a safe, prosperous New Year. Thank you for being the backbone of our community in times of need. đź’™

Did you know that in addition to disability support, we also offer specialised care for older adults, including cooking, cleaning and gardening services?

We want to utilise our platform to educate our followers about all kinds of disabilities, including conditions that can affect our older population.

Understanding Parkinson’s Disease

Parkinson’s disease is a neurological disorder that affects movement, causing symptoms like tremors, stiffness, and difficulty with balance and coordination. It’s progressive, meaning the symptoms worsen over time. Although Parkinson’s is more common in older adults, it can begin at any age.

The cause of Parkinson’s involves the degeneration of nerve cells in the part of the brain that controls movement. This decrease leads to lower levels of dopamine, which is essential for coordinating movements.

Unfortunately, while there is no cure yet, treatments include medications to increase dopamine, therapy, and sometimes surgery to manage symptoms and improve quality of life. Other avenues of treatment include physiotherapy and hydrotherapy.

At HealSeal, we understand the challenges and complexities of Parkinson’s Disease. We want to provide the highest level of care and support to improve the lives of those affected 🤍

Our first post for the week is on Autism, or Autism Spectrum Disorder

What is Autism?

Autism, or autism spectrum disorder (ASD), is a neurological condition that affects how people communicate and interact with others. It also influences behaviour, leading to repetitive actions and a strong preference for routines. Many people with ASD often face sensory difficulties, and comirbidities such as ADHD, anxiety, depression and OCD This can make it difficult for individuals to create and maintain relationships, and adjust to change.

Despite these challenges, many people with ASD display many strengths! Some are able to sustain their attention on tasks for extended periods of time (hyperfocus) which can increase memory and productivity. Others may live typical lives, and can obtain university degrees, be entrepreneurs or can be extremely creative and artistic.

A common misconception is that autistic people “lack empathy” which far from the truth. Many individuals are highly empathetic but may not display it in a stereotypical way. Many autistic people are capable of understanding emotions and can show love.

Autism is called a “spectrum” because it affects everyone differently. Some people might need little help in their daily lives (Level 1), while others might need more support (Level 2), and some require substantial assistance (Level 3).

Autism is often misunderstood, which means many people don’t get diagnosed as early as they could. This delay can make it harder for them to get the help they need.

At Heal Seal, we understand the unique challenges and strengths of those with autism. We’re here to support you 🤍
