Adenomyosis and endometriosis can look alike - yet they’re completely different conditions.

Clarity matters:
Adenomyosis – tissue growing within the uterine muscle
Endometriosis – tissue growing outside the uterus
Careful assessment and imaging help distinguish the two
Tailored treatment depends on diagnosis, symptoms and goals

Chronic pelvic pain is a complex condition that can deeply affect daily life, relationships and emotional wellbeing.

For many, the frustration lies not only in the persistence of pain, but in the search for clear answers.

A scientific, structured approach is important:
• Understanding whether the cause lies in pelvic organs, nerve pathways, or functional pain syndromes
• Careful assessment that considers history, triggers, and associated symptoms
• Targeted investigations, from blood tests to advanced imaging, when needed
• Compassionate, multidisciplinary care that goes beyond physical symptoms

There are several options for contraception, each with its own benefits and considerations. The choice of a particular contraception method requires careful consideration and counselling.
Information concerning each contraceptive method needs to be presented and the pros and cons discussed.
Each patient needs to be treated as an individual with their own wishes and needs when it comes to contraception and reproduction.
There are around 12 methods of contraception available catering to different bodies and lifestyles. Contraception methods readily available range from hormonal solutions, non-hormonal, emergency contraceptive options to permanent contraception solutions.

It’s with great sadness that we have to announce that Dr Don Byrne - Lens long time teacher, colleague, mentor and friend of more than 40 years passed away this afternoon after a short illness.
Many of our obstetric patients will remember Don as Len’s long term surgical assistant and he assisted in bringing many of our babies into the world.
Don was a true gentleman in every sense and we send our condolences to Liz and his family.
Don you will be sadly missed by all of us in Suite 101.😓

Endometriosis and Adenomyosis are both conditions related to the endometrium, the tissue that lines the uterus but they do have distinct characteristics and implications.
Whilst both conditions involve endometrial tissue, endometriosis occurs outside the uterus and adenomyosis occurs within the uterine muscle.
For further information, read our latest blog. Link found in bio.
A/Prof Len Kliman has been treating women with both conditions for over 35 years.

Menopause can significantly impact sleep due to hormonal changes, particularly the decline in oestrogen and progesterone levels. These changes can lead to various sleep-related issues, including:
🔸Hot flushes and night sweats: Many women experience hot flushes during menopause which can disrupt sleep by causing sudden feelings of heat and sweating particularly at night.
🔸Insomnia: Some women may have difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep, leading to insomnia. This can be caused by hormone fluctuations or stress and anxiety related to menopause.
🔸Sleep apnea: The risk of sleep apnea, a condition characterised by interrupted breathing during sleep, may increase during menopause due to weight gain or changes in body composition.
🔸Mood changes: Hormonal changes can lead to mood swings, anxiety and depression which can further interfere with sleep quality.
🔸Restless legs syndrome: Some women may experience restless legs syndrome during menopause which can make it difficult to fall asleep.
To manage sleep disturbances during menopause, women should consider lifestyle changes such as trying to maintain a regular sleep schedule, create a comfortable sleep environment, practice relaxation techniques and staying physically active.
Hormonal replacement therapy (HRT) can also assist in aiding better sleep so if your sleep patterns are causing you grief, you should consult your GP or Gynaecologist so that treatment options can be considered.
A/Prof Len Kliman is a member of the Australian Menopause Society and has been treating women going through perimenopause and menopause for over 35 years.
