How do we say enough thanks to the wonderful team at Community Bank Mooroolbark? 10 years ago the Community Bank funded a bus for us, and now they have generously provided the funding for our newest addition to the Caladenia fleet.
Thank you! Thank you to the Board, and to Manji and the team. We could not be more appreciative of the support we get from our local Community Bank!!

This afternoon we celebrated our retired bus driver Hayward. Hayward helped us cut the ribbon on our new bus, and as it is Caladenia's tradition to name our vehicles after those who have contributed above and beyond - our 4th vehicle has been named Hayward!

Dan did make reference to the fact that Hayward is the only person who has had a vehicle named for them whilst they were still amongst the living!

Caladenia's fleet is growing, we now have 4 vehicles providing transport to and from outing and activities as we continue to expand our services for people living with dementia.

Thank you and Congratulations 🥳 Hayward!

🎄 Do you remember Father Christmas? 🎄

If you grew up in Australia in the 1960s or 70s, you might remember that we didn’t always talk about Santa.
Many of us waited instead for Father Christmas.

He felt a little quieter. A little older. Less about “Ho ho ho” and more about anticipation — the waiting, the rituals, the sense that Christmas was slowly arriving rather than bursting in.

Over time, Santa Claus took over our language and our shops and our TV screens. Nothing changed overnight — it just drifted. Children started saying Santa. Adults followed. And Father Christmas slipped gently into memory.

But for many people, especially those living with dementia, those older Christmas memories remain strong.

Tonight, you might like to ask:
✨ Did you call him Father Christmas or Santa?
✨ What did Christmas feel like when you were a child?
✨ Was there a song, a smell, or a tradition you remember?

There are no right or wrong answers — just stories waiting to be shared. 💬💛

If this brings up a memory for you or someone you love, we’d love to hear it in the comments.

Our Story

Caladenia was founded by Trish Maggs OAM and friends in 1983 to provide services to people living with dementia and their families. From humble beginnings we have grown to a service that provides programs and services to over 70 people living with dementia a week, as well as providing support and respite to those who care for them.

We are the only dementia specific service in the Shire of Yarra Ranges, and continue to grow our innovative services to provide for the increasing need in our community.
