Celebrating Milestones and Mentorship πŸ₯

Reflecting on the past year, Nathan Eardley-Harris expresses profound gratitude for the transformative journey he's embarked upon.

"Wow! What a year! Honoured to have completed my fellowship year being mentored and trained by Jit Balakumar for the last 12 months. Learning the art of the hip from Jit, has given me a deeper understanding and appreciation of hip and knee surgery far beyond what I could imagine.

Thank you Jit for the countless hours of mentoring and lessons that has taken place over the year. Many thanks also to David Alexander Young, David Slattery, Lucas Annabell, John O'Donnell, Marc Friso, Mark O'Sullivan, Paul Gadd and Emily Dickson, who have taken time out of their year to teach and inspire me along the way.

Thank you Melbourne, it’s been great but now it’s time to return to Adelaide!"

Achilles Tendon Ruptures 🦢

These injuries typically occur during sports activities or sudden, forceful movements. The Achilles tendon, which connects the calf muscles to the heel bone, can tear partially or completely, causing significant pain and hindering mobility.

Surgery is often recommended for athletes and active individuals with Achilles tendon ruptures, especially for those aiming to return to high-demand activities.

Surgical intervention aims to restore the tendon's strength and function, promoting optimal recovery.

Understanding Flexor & Extensor Tendon Injuries🀚

Flexor and extensor tendons play crucial roles in the movement of our hands and fingers. When these tendons are injured, everyday tasks can become challenging.

Let's delve into what you need to know about flexor and extensor tendon injuries.

𝔼𝕩π•₯π•–π•Ÿπ•€π• π•£ π•‹π•–π•Ÿπ••π• π•Ÿ π•€π•Ÿπ•›π•¦π•£π•ͺ
Extensor tendons, positioned on the back of the hand and fingers, facilitate the straightening of fingers and thumbs. Despite their essential function, they're vulnerable due to their superficial location.

Injuries to extensor tendons may result in scar tissue formation, restricting tendon movement and causing difficulties in finger bending and straightening.

𝔽𝕝𝕖𝕩𝕠𝕣 π•‹π•–π•Ÿπ••π• π•Ÿ π•€π•Ÿπ•›π•¦π•£π•ͺ
Flexor tendons are responsible for bending our fingers to form a fist. Deep cuts on the palm side of the hand, wrist, or fingers pose a risk to these tendons, along with nearby nerves and blood vessels.

Due to the natural separation of cut tendon ends, spontaneous healing is unlikely, necessitating surgical intervention to restore functionality.
