When transfer is the goal, maybe a little chaos is useful. We all talk about training in general or a particular exercise having a 'functional outcome', but does it really if every repetition we perform is exactly the same? Have you build a robust movement pattern that can account for variations in your environment? Next time you perform a squat or a sit to stand, change it up a bit; alter one foot position, offset the weight, use an unstable surface. Make your system adjust.
