DNS for Optimal Performance - Part 1

In this series we’re demonstrating how DNS integrates into High Performance training.

Ged Saunders, first year player for Footscray Bulldogs VFL. Building high level skills relies on exemplary foundational movement patterns.  For Ged to be able to win a ground ball, absorb contact and/or change movement direction to evade an opponent and execute a handball to an outside running teammate in traffic requires exceptional trunk stability in multiplanar movement.

Building capacity to control the trunk in an ipsilateral turn enables powerful and precise skill execution.  Stay tuned to see where we take this sequence next.

Meet Izzy!

Izzy plays football for The Sandringham Zebras VFLW, and has recently had to press pause on training due to a recent bout of recurring lower back pain.

After a session with a DNS certified practitioner, Izzy’s pain went from a 6/10 to a 2/10 pain 🔥

Not by chance. Not by shortcuts.By going back to the basics of how the body is meant to move.
Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilisation (DNS) isn’t just rehab, it’s re-learning control, stability, and efficiency from the ground up.

Thoughtless, Fearless, Relaxed Movement.Improved function, reduced pain.
Real results.

This is what is possible when you train the body in the way it was designed to function 💪

What makes DNS different?

You might have seen Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilisation (DNS) on our class timetable… but what actually sets it apart from other forms of exercise?

DNS isn’t just about getting a sweat on — it’s about retraining your body from a movement ‘building blocks’ level.

- It’s based on neuro-developmental principles
DNS leverages principles from how we naturally learned to move from when we are infants— resulting in pure, efficient movement patterns that enable a high level of function in everyday tasks all the way up to high performance.

- It focuses on the nervous system
Rather than just ‘building muscles’, DNS works on the communication between your brain and body, building better movement patterns that improve coordination, control, and stability.

- It builds strength differently
Instead of isolating muscles, DNS optimises your body as a ‘collection of dynamic systems’. As such, it teaches your body to work as a whole — improving posture, breathing, and trunk stability to contribute to strong, powerful movements.

- It’s low impact, high value
Movements may look simple, but they’re incredibly powerful for reducing pain, preventing injury, and challenging your brain to find more efficient movement patterns.

Whether you’re dealing with pain, returning to exercise, or wanting to move better — DNS meets you where you’re at.

📅 Join our DNS classes twice a week and experience the difference for yourself!

Here’s why👇

Strength training helps support your knees, not harm them. When you build strength in the muscles around the joint like your quads, hamstrings, and glutes, you develop more efficient movement patterns, spread the load across your knee joint and reduce sheering forces and wear and tear on the joint itself.

It improves joint stability, control, and alignment, which can reduce pain and lower your risk of future injury. ‘Motion is the lotion’. Avoiding exercise often leads to weaker muscles, inefficient compensatory patterns and more discomfort over time.

The key? Smart, targeted training that’s tailored to you. Avoiding loading altogether is never the answer.

Strong muscles = supported knees 💪

Are you wondering who our DNS classes are for?

DNS focuses on rediscovering your ability to ‘glide’. How you stabilise your trunk is key. Re-establishing proper coordination of our deep stability system under our breathing is central to moving better. Did you know that it is highly likely you had better trunk control when you were 3 years old than you have now? This class is perfect for you if:

- You experience ongoing back, neck, or joint pain or stiffness
- You are returning to exercise or sport after an injury
- You think trunk instability and poor posture might be a contributor to your aches and pains
- You feel tight, weak, or unstable during movement
- You are an athlete wanting to improve performance and reduce injury risk

Our DNS classes focus on movement quality, control, and building a strong foundation for everyday movement and exercise.

📅 Classes run Tuesday & Thursday at 6pm
📍Guided by a DNS certified practitioner

If you’re unsure whether DNS is right for you, feel free to reach out or chat to our team before class!

Last Thursdays DNS ✨

Here’s what our Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilisation class focused on last week:

• Deep core activation & diaphragmatic control
• Slow, controlled developmental positions
• Building stability before strength
• Quality of movement over intensity

DNS helps retrain efficient movement patterns, improves stability, and supports injury rehabilitation & high performance.

Whether you’re returning from injury or wanting to move better and feel stronger — this class is for you.

Our new Thursday night class is a great place to start, call us to reserve your spot!

Introducing one of our clients, Ray T, who is completing the full 578km Rotary Ride for Medical Research. Ray is participating in this event to spread awareness and raise much needed funds. In his mid-70s, Ray is a great example of what is possible well into older age when a commitment to maintaining functional fitness is maintained.
