Speaking at Wish for a Baby Australia Sydney was such a powerful reminder of why this work matters.
One pattern I noticed again and again was how many people had spent months … in fact years most of the time … trying to conceive, or had already gone through failed IVF cycles, without anyone properly looking at diet, lifestyle, nutrient status, or the bigger picture first.
The cost of that is not just physical. It is emotional, mental, and financial too.
This is why fertility nutrition should not be treated as a last resort. It should be part of the conversation and assessment from the beginning - whether someone is trying naturally, preparing for IVF, navigating PCOS or endometriosis, thinking about male factor, or simply wanting to put their best foot forward before pregnancy.
What stayed with me most was how many people came over afterwards to share their story, ask thoughtful questions, and opened up about where they were in their journey. Those conversations were a real reminder of how much people are carrying, and how much earlier, clearer, and more joined-up support is needed.
People deserve earlier, more proactive, more integrated support. And fertility dietitians deserve a clearer, more established place within reproductive care … not just after failed cycles, but much earlier in the journey.
Grateful to have been a part of this important conversation in Sydney. Melbourne, you’re next.
