Here is the key history of teacher training from the 1960 era showing how teachers need to be more respectful of dyslexic students as well as put in a greater effort to study literacy !!!

Every educator made a personal choice to learn about dyslexia and literacy or to decide they did not want to improve their own knowledge on their own time. It may make them feel better to blame the teacher prep or school training, but any person in any single field working with kids is fully capable of their own lifelong learning.

Blaming any outside force or broken system enabled them to support the wait-to-fail for kids and the wait-to-learn for teachers.

Fortunately, a percentage of highly ethical and action oriented educators made an intentional choice to routinely update their own knowledge because it was the right thing to do for the past 99 years.

All educators must make their own choice to show the world they are capable and willing to learn about dyslexia, neurodiversity and .

The knowledge you carry about learning differences in your brain and heart is a choice only you can make.

Blaming teacher prep, job training, staffing , funding, leadership, school boards, union contracts and anything outside of yourself only serves a purpose to avoid doing the work and not serving the children depending on you.

It’s going to be ok. I can testify to this due to my own family’s journey along this pathway. Yes it’s terrifying, yes it’s heartbreaking and yes I had to mourn many things about our future that would never become a reality for us, but my child was still the same child an hour before his diagnosis. He hadn’t changed and he was still my most caring and loveable little boy ever! Our journey started out bumpy and scary but as we went along there were times when this journey was amazing, awe worthy and full of highs with lots to celebrate. This journey requires a lot of hard work, time and effort but it is a journey that is so worth travelling!
