Meet Lexi, Frankston Emergency Department’s (ED) dedicated Equipment Coordinator, Registered Nurse, current Athletics State Champion and proud winner of the prestigious 2019 Stawell Gift.

Lexi splits her time between the track and keeping the ED running smoothly by managing stock and repairing equipment to ensure our clinicians have everything they need.

“An opportunity came up to step into the Equipment Coordinator role, and I’ve absolutely loved it,” says Lexi. “It’s fast-paced, active and constantly changing, which keeps things interesting, and the schedule works perfectly with my running.”

“I don't think I’d be in the position I’m in with my running and career if it weren’t for the support I’ve received. This past year has been really exciting; I’ve come ahead in leaps and bounds – I feel very lucky.”

As Lexi’s role continues to evolve, she’s looking forward to the redevelopment and how it will impact equipment, with new upgrades and improvements that will help enhance health outcomes for patients and the wider community.

New Technology Aligns Aged Care Residents’ Health Information 💻

We're excited to share that an innovative health system has been tested to improve healthcare for aged care residents. This technology transfers critical medical information between homes and hospitals, ensuring seamless, connected care.

Conducted by Peninsula Health and the National Centre for Healthy Ageing (NCHA), the trial integrated the Digital Health Summary in three aged care sites.

"From a technical perspective, the study worked well. We developed a unique infrastructure to share the residents’ summary securely," explains Professor Nadine Andrew. “Pre-registration ensured quick access to their digital health summary at the hospital, significantly improving patient care.”

Executed by Dr Katrina Long, aged care staff embraced the new technology. "We had really good buy-in from residential aged care homes - staff were welcoming and supportive of the project," notes Professor Andrew.

The Digital Health Summary is set to transform aged care, making healthcare more connected, efficient, and patient-centred.
We will provide updates to our community on how the implementation of this technology is progressing.

Frankston and Rosebud Hospitals are now the highest performing hospitals in the state for Ambulance Victoria offload times.

This means patients are transferred into the Emergency Department (ED) faster, and Ambulances can get back into the community sooner.

With the key measure set by the Victorian Department of Health, Peninsula Health teams have consistently surpassed the state-wide target.

+ More than 95% of patients at Frankston Hospital were transferred in the target time frame over the last three months.

+ More than 95% of patients at Rosebud Hospital were transferred in the target time frame over the last five months.

Thanks to some unique innovations conceived and implemented by our ED team, we are providing our community with timely, world-class emergency care.
We will share more about how we have achieved these measures soon.

Today we acknowledge our colleagues at Gippsland Southern Health Service, their professionalism and the role they play in providing the best of care to the community.

We are working closely with Gippsland Southern Health Service ahead of the merging of our services, together with Alfred Health, Bass Coast Health and Kooweerup Regional Health Service to form Bayside Heath (working title) early next year.

"The mushroom murder trial has thrust our region and our health service into the national and even international spotlight.

This has been a difficult time for everyone in our community, especially the family and friends of those directly involved. For all the attention this case has brought to our region, we need to remember that it relates to the tragic deaths of three local people. Our thoughts are with their families, and we hope that this week’s verdict brings them some closure.

It has also been a challenging time for our health service and our staff. I would like to take this opportunity to thank our staff for their incredible professionalism in the way they handled the emergency at the time and for how they conducted themselves during the trial.

The South Gippsland region is very lucky to have such professional and caring healthcare workers.

We note that this has been a criminal trial, and all current GSHS staff called to give evidence have refrained from commenting outside of the courtroom.

GSHS is proud to be part of the close-knit South Gippsland community, and we hope that we can now move ahead with a positive focus on what is so good about our region."

Today, our health service is bursting with colour as staff proudly sport their brightest socks for Crazy Socks 4 Docs Day. A powerful initiative that sparks conversations about mental health and helps break the stigma surrounding doctors and health professionals facing mental illness.
