Along with many other services around Australia and New Zealand, child and adolescent mental health services in Tasmania are currently in the midst of an extensive reform. As we continue to develop more targeted services to support young people it is important to pause and reflect together on how far we have come, and 'where to from here'.

This year’s conference will feature a diverse program, under the theme renewal and growth, offering opportunities for learning and reflection across the full spectrum of child and adolescent psychiatric practice and the challenges that are impacting young people today.

To celebrate , last week we hosted a panel discussion on 'You Can't Ask That: Indigenous Mental Health.' and heard from Indigenous psychiatrists, Dr Chris Henry, Dr Amanda Steele, and Dr Marshall Watson.

The discussion focused on the concepts of cultural safety and how to respectfully engage with people within psychiatry and healthcare. It emphasised the importance of ongoing learning about First Nations culture, supporting First Nations communities, breaking down stigma, and building trust.

Additionally, RANZCP staff participated in the Street Party organised by the Victorian Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation Inc. It was a wonderful afternoon with performances from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists, a smoking ceremony, community stalls, delicious food, and cultural activities that reflected this year’s theme, The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy.
