Safety is the key to feeling secure, playful, happy, content, peaceful, confident and provides a foundation and a base towards self-actualisation and a path to thriving.
Safety doesn’t just mean physical safety, this also means psychological and emotional safety. When consistent, safety creates trust, green flags in a relationship or friendship and a greater ability to withstand and tolerate difficult emotions, as well as being protected from harm or danger.

Happy International Women’s Day! Here’s to not only today, but everyday in recognising women’s achievements, women’s rights and raising awareness around discrimination and violence against women (including the more insidious verbal and psychological). Here’s to everyday creating a call to action to create equality and empowerment. To build solidarity and agency.

To the mums, grandmothers and daughters, to the women who are showing up in doing the inner recovery and healing work from trauma, to the women who’ve experienced family violence and or intimate partner violence, to the women who have experienced sexual abuse, to the women who’ve experienced childhood trauma. I see, acknowledge and honour you.
To the sisterhood, let’s collectively embrace equity.

How do I relax? My current holiday in Vietnam is a testament to that. Here I’m soaking up the views of a mountain I’d just climbed in Ha Long Bay. I take relaxing, being off-grid and self-care very seriously in the line of work that I do in walking the talk and how I best serve my clients and colleagues, so that I can properly fill my cup and give my all in my work, particularly in the areas of trauma treatment and recovery that I do.

Gallagher Psychology is now closed from 22nd Dec 2024 and will reopen on Friday 3rd January 2024. We look forward to resting and recharging over the holidays to service our wonderful clients in the new year- big things in the pipeline for 2025 too after a big 2024!

Many thanks to our followers, supporters and clients for the support this year- it has been a challenging and big year with the fallout of the last few years and mental health toll with rising costs as well as continued war overseas, and an increase in crime. Take care of you during the festive season- it is very normal to experience mixed emotions during this time.

Who Am I? A reintroduction as it’s been a while especially if you have just discovered my page and practice. Welcome.

10 things about me:
1. I am from Melbourne, Australia.
2. I have 16 years of clinical experience.
3. I love to run and do regular exercise as part of my self-care routine (I’ve just recently done my second half marathon in October). I am an extroverted introvert; that is, I enjoy both social time and alone time.
4. I’m planning on writing a book; The Roadmap to Rise on how to recover from childhood trauma, family and domestic violence with a sprinkling of some of my lived experience in these areas too. I’m also doing my own course of EMDR therapy currently to put “old cobwebs” to bed. Exhausting, but utterly freeing and amazing!
5. I have and continue to feel like a phoenix rising from the ashes from my personal experiences, lived experiences and stories which has been the inspiration for my practice and branding.
6. I am planning a relaunch on my podcast called Phoenix Rising with Gallagher Psychology and a return to my mental health minute videos- watch this space!
7. I have a deep passion for destigmatising mental health in Australia. I have planted the seeds for a mental health campaign in Australia called .
8. I love to learn new things. In 2022, I became an EMDR Accredited Practitioner and a Board Approved Supervisor. I’m working towards becoming an EMDR Accredited Consultant and am very close to submission.
9. I like to take myself out of the comfort zone to stimulate growth, both personally and professionally.
10. I am a fan of the arts and enjoy musicals, exhibitions and concerts. I also love to travel and explore new places (loved Thailand at the start of this year and heading to Vietnam and Cambodia at the start of next year!)

What an incredible last two days at the Treacy Centre up skilling in the gamechanging EMDR 2.0 and meeting Ad de Jongh and dr. Suzy Matthijssen.

I’m very much looking forward to implementing these powerful and efficient interventions with my clients to heal and treat trauma and complex trauma, as part of my EMDR toolkit. Thank you both for sharing your generosity, cutting edge research, excellent outcomes from PsyTREC in the Nederlands and keeping the learning so fun, practical and engaging!

It was World Mental Health Day on Thursday. Meeting World and Olympic Marathon champion Steve Monaghetti again was a highlight on Wednesday evening as I completed the last of a three-month preparation and training for tomorrow’s Nike Melbourne Marathon Festival and embark on my second Half Marathon. Running is good for my mental health and is a moving meditation for me. I look forward to participating again in tomorrow’s event and riding the emotional waves of a long distance run.

A new horizon- today symbolised another big Day Two of the RI-EMDR part two training in the majestic Hunter Valley. Today I was picked to process some very deep intergenerational trauma using Relational-Informed EMDR. A releasing and a repair happened that I didn’t expect. In a good and healing way, following the Holotropic breathworks yesterday. The word landed came to mind working with my parts. Once again, I am looking forward to being able to use these powerful tools (and more learnt tomorrow on our third and final day!) with my clients in deepening trauma healing and recovery using intergenerational trauma informed EMDR.
