Our origins date back to the early 1960's when Fred Appelbe ("Doc") started his practice in Sargood Street in Hampton. Dr Appelbe subsequently moved his practice to the Service Street location in 1966. Bayside Medical Group-Hampton (formerly known as Hampton Bayside Medical Centre)is a doctor-owned, private practice in the Bayside suburb of Hampton. It is linked to the Bayside Medical Group-Mentone site. We are committed to providing the highest quality of general practice care for our local community. Our General Practitioners are experienced in managing medical problems from newborn to the elderly. We offer a broad range of services and work closely with our allied health providers. Our services include dietician, diabetes education, visiting geriatrician and psychologist consultations. We also have pathology collection services at both Hampton and Mentone sites. Together with our practice nurses and helpful support staff, our GPs consult in an ethical and professional manner and we foster teamwork and support within our network. Our doctors have a strong relationship with both public and private hospitals locally, including the Sandringham Hospital, Holmesglen Private Hospital, Linacre Private Hospital and Cabrini Brighton.

Our Story

Our origins date back to the early 1960’s when Fred Appelbe (“Doc”) started his practice in Sargood Street in Hampton. Dr Appelbe subsequently moved his practice to the Service Street location in 1966. It was known as “The Clinic” back then and it opened for patients on 28 August 1966.

Hampton Bayside Medical Centre was formed in April 1999 when “Brightham Medical Centre” and “The Clinic” merged. What followed was a major refurbishment of the rooms at 3 Service Street, Hampton to create a modern medically equipped facility.

Our practice has always held a strong commitment to providing the highest standard of medical care for our community in the tradition of both “The Clinic” and “Brightham”.

In 2016. as the demand for our doctors grew, we expanded our services and opened a new branch in Mentone. The expansion heralded a change in name to the Bayside Medical Group.
