At Monash Health, we know it is the small things our team do that can make a big difference to patients and their families 💙

Patient Experience Week, from Monday 27 April to Friday 1 May, is a chance for all of us to celebrate and recognise our people for moments of significant kindness, care, and dedication to patient experience.

If you, or a family member, have experienced a team member going above and beyond in their role, we invite you to nominate them for a Service Excellence Award ✨

Today, on Anzac Day, we honour those who have served and are currently serving in the military.

This includes the many healthcare professionals, including some of our colleagues, who have served and continue to serve around the world.

We recognise the sacrifice made by healthcare professionals in current and historical military efforts.

Across major Monash Health sites we will observe a minute’s silence and read The Ode of Remembrance.

Lest we forget.

The Monash Health Foundation is thrilled to be hosting our signature fundraising event for 2026 – the Monash Children’s Hospital Shine Gala ⭐

Join us on Saturday 13 June at the elegant Sofitel Melbourne on Collins for a spectacular evening of entertainment and fundraising, in support of our very special hospital.

This year, this incredible evening will support patients and families in our Paediatric Cleft and Craniofacial Anomalies Service at Monash Children’s Hospital.

Funds raised will make a meaningful difference to children born with a cleft lip and/or palate — a congenital condition that can affect a baby’s ability to feed, speak and hear.

These children often face long-term and complex treatment journeys involving multiple surgeries and ongoing care throughout their childhood.

Your support will mean more families will receive the specialised treatment and guidance they need during what can be an incredibly challenging time, with:

🖨️ New 3D printing for precise documenting and surgical planning.

📝 Patient-held care plans to support and empower families along their journey.

🧠 Introduction of a dedicated Clinical Psychologist to support mental health and wellbeing.

💬 An additional Speech Therapist to improve language and developmental outcomes.

🙋🏻‍♀️ Introduction of a Child Life Therapist to ease anxiety during clinical procedures.

When a child is admitted to intensive care, all the attention is rightly on that child.

But what about their siblings?

Two-thirds of children in paediatric intensive care have at least one sibling.

There are currently no national or international guidelines for how to include and support siblings during a child's critical illness.

New research aims to change that.

Monash Children's Hospital is proud to be one of 6 Australian sites participating in the PICU Sibling Study.

The national research program is funded by the Australian Research Council and led by Dr Ashleigh Butler, a former Registered Nurse at Monash Medical Centre, now a researcher at La Trobe University.

‘For the first time, we’ll have a robust evidence base and practical guidelines that tell us how to properly include and support siblings, and that is going to make a real difference for families,’ said Molly Block, a senior social worker in the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit at Monash Children’s Hospital.

Community members gathered at the Wat Buddharangsi Buddhist Temple in Springvale South on Sunday 29 March – celebrating the annual Buddhist Flower Ceremony 🌸

The cultural event included traditional offerings, with the Cambodian community choosing to raise funds to support the Monash Health Foundation and young patients and their families at Monash Children’s Hospital.

Thanks to the community's incredible generosity, close to $30,000 was raised on the day, for patient and family-centred care initiatives that will ease challenges for patients and their families when they need it most 💛

Thank you to philanthropist Richard Lim OAM and everyone who was a part of the festivities, traditional dancing and prayer, for including us on this special day.

The Monash Health Foundation is proud to share that the 2026 Bailey's Day raised over $300,000. The money raised will make a significant difference in the lives of children and their families facing cancer 🏌️🩵

Over the last 22 years, Patrick Tessier OAM has hosted the annual fundraising golf day in support of the Monash Children’s Hospital Cancer Centre.

Bailey’s Day is named in honour of Patrick's son, Bailey, who passed away from an aggressive brain tumour in 2004 at just 2 and a half years old.

‘It is remarkable how families facing the toughest challenges with their children, turn it around and support, advocate, fundraise and make a difference to future children who come through the Cancer Centre,’ said John De Rango, Director of Monash Health Foundation.

Over 2 decades, Patrick and his family have helped Monash Children’s Cancer Centre grow into a world-leading paediatric cancer centre. They have raised a total of over $5.2 million, and funded the training of 22 paediatric oncologists to deliver expert care.

‘Philanthropic support allows us to think big, working with people who are passionate about the same things we’re passionate about,’ said Dr Michelle Martin, Head of Paediatric Oncology at Monash Children’s Hospital.

‘It is specifically thanks to Bailey’s Day that we are able to be an accredited site for training and really offer a full, comprehensive service delivery to patients that live in our area.’

A heartfelt thank you to Patrick, the Bailey’s Day team, and everyone who has contributed to Bailey’s legacy. Your generosity has created lasting hope and brighter futures for countless children and families ✨

Your next supermarket shop can help sick kids get home to the things they miss 🧡

This month, Hospitals United for Sick Kids joined us to launch their Coles Campaign – with all funds raised in Victoria helping to enhance care and fund new initiatives at Monash Children's Hospital.

🛒🥫Coles shoppers can shop for sick kids – with 50c donated from the purchase of more than 170 participating products, up until 7 April.

Since the alliance partnership began in 2019, Hospital’s United for Sick Kids has distributed over $2 million from product sales and point of sale donations. Supporting our care teams to bring projects to life that help our patients get home to their loved ones.

‘Over the last 12 months, we've been able to see 16 per cent more kids in the home environment, thanks to some of the equipment and models of cares that have been designed through the Hospitals United for Sick Kids support,’ said Dani Smith, Operational Director at Monash Children’s Hospital.

A first-of-its-kind study in Australia led by Dr Lachlan Dalli from the School of Clinical Sciences at Monash Health has found that children who had an infection in the past 60 days faced roughly twice the risk of stroke.

And that elevated risk doesn't disappear quickly: it's highest in the two weeks after infection and can persist for up to 6 months.

Specific infections associated with childhood stroke included severe infections such as meningitis/encephalitis, sepsis, lower respiratory infections, but also common infections such as gastrointestinal infections and RSV.

While rare, stroke in children can cause death or long-term disability. Vaccination and good hygiene can help protect children from infections linked to this increased risk.

📢 GPs and parents: recovery from an infection isn't the end of the watch period. Stay alert to stroke warning signs long after illness passes.
