It's orthotic review month at South Eastern Sports Podiatry!

June is the busiest month of the year for reviewing orthotics. We're sending out reminder emails to all our clients that are due for an orthotic review, but you should be checking your orthotics too - are they still in one piece?

Book in an appointment to see a podiatrist and give those orthotics a much-needed face lift!

1. Keep Your Feet Clean and Dry:
Damp feet get tend to get cold more easily and are prone to bacterial and viral infections. Drying your feet thoroughly and using foot powder can help keep your feet clean and dry. Try wearing socks made of moisture-wicking materials such as merino wool, to keep warm and remove moisture at the same time.

2. Wear Comfortable Boots:
Wear boots that fit comfortably and that aren’t too tight. Tight footwear can decrease blood flow, making it harder to keep your feet warm, increasing the risk of frostbite, or flaring up conditions such as Chilblains and Raynaud’s. It is crucial for footwear to fit properly right away in order to prevent chafing, blisters, and foot injuries.

3. Wash Your Feet Daily:
Wash your feet every day. Keeping feet clean can prevent toenail fungus and other unpleasant problems. Make sure that your feet are completely dry before you put socks and shoes on again. Change socks daily.

4. Moisturise Your Skin:
Cold weather means the air is less humid, which means less moisture for your skin and nails. When your skin dries out, it splits and can lead to painful fissures, increased pain and chances of infection. Remember to use a good moisturizer daily, not just when your skin looks like you need it. As a result, your skin will be supple and smooth, even in the cold weather!

Remember, it is a lot easier to maintain good skin than it is to fix a problem.

The importance of keeping your feet happy and healthy can be seen in how it impacts the rest of your body, your movement, and your lifestyle. Maintaining good foot health can look different for everybody, whether that be regular podiatry check-ups, making sure to moisturise your dry heels, or getting those toes moving with a bit of toe yoga. Taking care of your feet means taking care of your overall health too, it all starts from the ground up!

If you're looking for extra support, speak to one of our team about getting a biomechanical assessment to determine the best solution for you, whether that be orthotics or something else!
