As part of NAIDOC Week, the residents of Point Cook Manor took part in a special craft activity that connected them with nature and honoured Indigenous culture. The residents walked around the grounds of the home collecting fallen leaves and gumnuts which inspired them to create indigenous inspired art pieces.

The activity sparked conversations on the importance of culture and traditions, as well as the achievements and cerebrations of different cultures. It was a wonderful afternoon spent learning and partaking in art activities and socialising with others. How fabulous do their finished works of art look! šŸŽØ

There’s nothing quite like enjoying a movie and lunch with friends. Residents from Point Cook Manor recently enjoyed an outing to the local cinemas to see the newly released F1 movie. As devoted fans of Brad Pitt, excitement was high, and the film certainly lived up to expectations. While many of the Homestyle homes boast in-house movie theatres, nothing compares to the thrill of watching a film on the big screen. It was a fun and memorable outing for everyone involved! šŸæšŸŽ¬

The residents of Point Cook Manor celebrated a very special birthday, beloved Manor Dog, Tessie, turned 5!

Tessie, the cherished companion of residents Lal and Bob, is now lovingly cared for by their daughter, Margaret. Every day, Margaret brings Tessie to visit, where she strolls the grounds, brings smiles to faces, and shares a beautiful bond with everyone at Point Cook Manor.

Wearing her official ā€œMANOR DOGā€ uniform, Tessie has become a treasured member of the Point Cook Manor family and is adored by so many of the residents.

Here’s to many more tail-wagging years ahead for Tessie! 🐾

Four of the residents from Point Cook Manor enjoyed an outing to the Hoppers Crossing Bowls Club to try their hand at lawn bowls! None of the residents had ever tried lawn bowling before, so it was with much excitement and a hint of uncertainty that they gave it a go.

The residents were given a lesson and some playing tips by the Club Coach. Lawn Bowls is a precision sport whereby the players roll balls towards a target (the jack or kitty) aiming to get their bowls closer than their opponents. It’s a strategic game, requiring both physical and mental focus, but the residents were up for it, enjoying the challenge of trying something new.

With the sun shining brightly and a warm breeze blowing, the residents thoroughly enjoyed their very first attempt at playing lawn bowls! They felt a sense of achievement and pride being able to come away saying they gave it their best shot! Afterwards they enjoyed lunch at the Club, and are looking forward to the opportunity of giving Lawn Bowls another go again real soon!

The residents and staff at Point Cook Manor sure know how to beat the Winter Blues by enjoying a PJ Day! Whilst National Pyjama Day is on July 25th, they were just a tad early, but keen to get into the celebrations. šŸŽ‰

Entertainer Steve Simpson joined them playing lounge/swing music, with the residents and staff singing and dancing along.

There were decorations, a PJ Fashion Parade, a lucky dip and prizes presented.

Thanks to the Lifestyle Team for making Pyjama Day so enjoyable, dressing up in their PJ’s, and to the wonderful residents who embraced the occasion with enthusiasm and smiles. 🫶

Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea is a community event held in May/June every year, raising vital funds to make a big difference to those impacted by Cancer.

Earlier this week Point Cook Manor hosted a morning tea, complete with delicious yellow cupcakes, and holding a presentation about the Cancer Council, and the importance of their fundraising efforts that will go towards life-saving research.

Staff and residents held a raffle with prizes of beautiful Cancer Council Teddy Bears, as well as collecting donations. Conversations were sparked with residents sharing stories about their own cancer diagnosis and treatments or those of family and friends. It was quite cathartic talking about a disease that is very likely to impact all of us in one way or another, at some stage in our life.

Snuggle Therapy has been introduced at Point Cook Manor! As part of this initiative, staff have established a 'Recycle Loved Bear Program', whereby the staff give the residents a pre-loved Teddy Bear that helps to address feelings of loneliness, stress and anxiety. It's a form of self-care that focuses on the basic human need for touch and connection.

The power of touch has been found to impact us all positively, largely down to the cascade of emotions released, and judging by these photos of the residents with their Teddy Bears, they are a 'pawfect' edition for them to enjoy. šŸ§øā¤ļø

The residents enjoyed participating in a craft afternoon with our creative Lifestyle staff.

This project involved the residents making legume and seed mosaics, which are now proudly displayed in their rooms and throughout our Point Cook Manor home. The project also evoked memories and discussions on recipes and cooking with various pulses. šŸ«˜šŸ«›šŸ„œ

The residents enjoyed an afternoon tea of delicious donuts complete with a cuppa! šŸ©ā˜•

The Lifestyle team set up a Donut stall, and the residents could choose from a variety of flavours, with cinnamon donuts a big hit!

Thanks to resident Margie who helped with serving the donuts. The Donut stall was enjoyed by all, and bought smiles and joy on an otherwise just cold Melbourne afternoon. 🫶
