We've had some really lovely feedback recently and wanted to share.

Many people moving into Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) face an unexpected challenge. Their National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) assistive technology funding covers some necessary modifications like ceiling hoists or grab rails, but not everything their home needs to be truly accessible.

Why does this funding gap happen?

Can Your Family Live With You in SDA? Understanding Appendix H

Many people with Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) funding face a difficult choice: accessible housing that meets their needs, or living with family members who don't have SDA funding themselves.

Appendix H changes this. This provision allows NDIS participants with SDA funding to live in purpose-built accessible housing with family members or loved ones who don't have their own SDA funding.

Whether you want to live with elderly parents, siblings, a partner, or other family members, Appendix H creates pathways for family-centred living in accessible housing. The participant needs existing SDA funding, and the family member pays separate market-rate rent to the SDA provider.

Your family member doesn't need NDIS approval to live with you. They simply need agreement from the SDA provider and capacity to meet rental obligations.
