In the tense tussle between futures, values, and competing visions of ideal worlds and lives there has been body-shaming, misogyny, racism, classism, and "tier-shaming" (in the SD world). As Graves said: "Every person has a right to be who he/she is." The colors of the spiral are symbolic of these many ways of being.
When properly used, our tools, approach and models reveal inner and outer worlds. Our philosophy and approach lie in seeing others - into their true beings - really seeing others not just a cursory glance. We see into their situations, their systems, their contexts, their circumstances. When we do this well, we might even feel as if we've lived their lives. We stand for going beyond skin deep and seeing beyond the face, the place, and the spaces others inhabit. We shed our skins to enable us to move into each unique social group and relational structures to know them deeply. We seek to remove the barriers that suppress our potential and the full expression and potential of those with whom we live, work, and journey this life.
Understanding is not acceptance. Human BEing is different from human DOing and HAVE-ing. Should we encounter harm to others - harmful human DOINGs - we draw the line and firmly say, "No. This is not acceptable." At this time, it is more important than ever to stand for the right of every human to BE who he or she is without harm, without belittling, without disdain. We stand for appreciating the grace and awe at the mystery of human being-ness. This pin is my commitment to embracing ALL the colors inherent in the Human Spiral - you and your spiral are safe with me. This is an invitation to join us in this mission. Are you in?
