Another research finding is out questioning the safety of some chemical sunscreen ingredients. The guidelines of regulatory bodies in different countries vary. In our opinion, physical blockers offer you a broad spectrum protection and are confirmed to be safe to use, so checking your physical sunblock options for your sun protection is the way to go. This useful article gives you a summary on the sunscreen debate

Good afternoon and I hope you are having a great day!
There is no doubt stress is negatively impacting our life and health. However, we should also remember that our perception of stress can further harmfully affect our wellbeing. The study conducted in Germany with the participation of German students suggested that negative stress beliefs predicted somatic symptoms in students under academic stress https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/27090420?fbclid=IwAR3aLGG9Sn0uTi0z69rFtrgEuEtnNyniLhgmcS2H8V5XIF9vML5AQhcLrik
The lesson to take out confirms the importance of our effort to overcome stress with positive thinking.

Vitamin D is a healthy “sunshine vitamin and is necessary for the development and maintenance of strong bones. However vitamin D can be toxic if taken in high doses. The story of the 54 year old Canadian man is a warning for everyone to be serious about your vitamin D consumption https://www.news-medical.net/news/20190409/Excessive-vitamin-D-intake-causes-man-to-develop-kidney-failure.aspx.
Kidney damage caused by excessive doses of vitamin D is real. Please always check with our medical professional before commencing the course of vitamin D supplements. And remember, spending short periods of time outdoors around noon in summer months helps your body generate the required amount of vitamin D.

A case study recently published in the Canadian Medical Association Journal has highlighted the danger of taking too many vitamin D supplements.

Good afternoon and I hope you are having a great day!
I am sometimes asked if facial massage or exercises help to slow down the sagginess of the face due to the ageing process.
My opinion is yes, facial massage and exercise do help. There are many facial muscles which if undergo some sort of strengthening with the help of exercise or massage contribute to the face becoming firmer and more toned and shaped like a younger face.
For those who are interested we have facial massage available in clinic and we also teach self-massage which you can do at home daily.
There was an interesting study on facial exercise done some time ago, please check the details of its findings here https://www.newsmedical.net/news/20180103/Facial-exercises-improve-appearance-of-middle-aged-women.aspx

The researchers from King's College London reported their recent findings in British Journal of Dermatology suggesting that their study, during a week of perfect weather in Tenerife (the largest of Spain’s Canary Islands, off West Africa), showed that sunscreens, even when used optimally to prevent sunburn, allowed excellent vitamin D synthesis.
Please read the details of the study here https://www.news-medical.net/news/20190509/Sunscreen-benefits-can-be-obtained-without-compromising-vitamin-D-levels.aspx and remember that wearing sunscreen reducing the risk of skin cancer and slows skin ageing process as well.

Sunscreen can reduce the sun's adverse effects, but there are concerns that it might inhibit the body's production of vitamin D.

Good afternoon and I hope you are having a great day!

What do we need to know about SPF, or sun protection factor?
SPF measures how much solar radiation is required to cause sunburn when you’re wearing sunscreen compared with unprotected skin. A sunscreen with an SPF of 30, when used as directed, prevents 97% of UVB rays from reaching your skin or in case of chemical sunscreen absorbs the UVB rays. SPF 50 blocks or absorbs 98%. It’s important to remember that while higher SPFs offer better protection, chemical sunscreens with higher SPF don’t last any longer than then ones with the lower SPF. Please always remember to reapply chemical sunscreen every 2 hours when outdoors and in the sun.

Good afternoon and I hope you are having a great day!

A lot of people believe that some plant oils provide sun protection, and a coconut oil in particular.
There was a single study done in 2009 which suggested that coconut oil can act as sun protection with SPF 7. Please note that SPF 7 doesn’t provide adequate sun protection compared to SPF 30 or 50 and it does not even reach the minimum recommended factor of SPF15. This means that coconut oil only blocks 20% of the sun’s ultraviolet rays compared to the sunscreen’s 93-97%.
Do not increase your risk of skin cancers and skin burns by going “natural”.
Choose a well-formulated sunscreen, preferably a physical block with Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide.

Skin cancer checks are part of preventative screening and are aimed to ensure skin cancers are detected early.
Have your Skin Scan for skin cancers regularly or when you notice a suspicious spot.
You should always ask your doctor for a whole body examination. Melanoma changes its appearance and changes are detected through comparison of images stored in the computerized system. A major technical advancement in melanoma detection, the digital dermoscopy makes the diagnosis much easier for your doctor and enhances the chances of detecting a malignant melanoma early.
