We had the pleasure of presenting an 'Introduction to TMJ Physiotherapy' workshop to the enthusiastic Western Health physiotherapy team this week! It's easy to dismiss the TMJ, but if you're treating clients with headaches, neck or shoulder pain, the TMJ should always be part of your clinical reasoning process.

Facial muscle tightness is of the most common complaints that I hear of when seeing clients with TMJ symptoms. Habits such as chewing on pens/pencils, biting nails, chewing gum and clenching, often cause the jaw muscles to work harder than they need to which often leads to other symptoms.

Temporomandibular Joint Disorders (TMD) are associated with many more symptoms than just jaw pain. It is often considered the 'Great Imposter' because so many of it's symptoms are associated with conditions related to the ear, teeth and vestibular system!

Our physio Jason is now starting to take appointments with new clients at our Sunshine and Sunshine North clinics.

He comes with almost 15 years experience in both the public and private sectors working with both sporting and non-sporting clients. His friendly and supportive nature makes it easy for his clients to ask questions and highlight any concerns. He's a big believer in working with clients to figure out their goals and providing them with tools to achieve them.
