he best integrated veterinary care available, within the one complex. As a Centre of Excellence, our specialists are committed to employing evidence-based practice to ensure animals receive medical care comparable to that of human medicine. The Centre’s collaborative approach to care draws upon the extensive skills of its specialists within the areas of internal medicine, surgery, dermatology, oncology and behavioural medicine. The Centre also has Victoria’s only combined medical and surgical oncology team onsite, with full internal medicine support to address a range of conditions often associated with cancer. Staff at MVSC understand and value the bond between clients and their pets. We aim to always cater to the emotional needs of clients, while keeping in mind the medical needs of their pets. We aspire to provide the best care to help pets live healthier, happier lives. As referral medicine providers, we maintain a strong relationship between the client, patient, and referring veterinarian. We discuss the diagnostic and treatment options available with our client to enable them to make an informed choice regarding their pet’s treatment. MVSC is located in two central Melbourne locations to serve our clients better; Our main centre is in Glen Waverley, with specialist services also available at our Essendon Fields centre at Essendon Airport.

⚠️ GRAPHIC CONTENT WARNING - SURGERY ⚠️

Meet Theo, a German Shepherd whose game of fetch at the park took a terrifying turn when a stick became lodged in his throat while running.

Theo was rushed to our clinic via pet ambulance, where Dr Arthur House performed emergency surgery. A CT scan allowed us to precisely locate the stick and carefully plan the safest surgical approach.

The stick was found resting against Theo’s carotid artery - an injury there can cause catastrophic bleeding which can be fatal within minutes. The stick had also splintered, with each tiny fragment needing to be removed. Left behind, these fragments can lead to deep infection and serious complications.

Thankfully, the surgery was a success! Theo went home the very next day and is recovering well.

As harmless as they seem, sticks can be incredibly dangerous for dogs. We strongly recommend choosing safer alternatives when playing fetch 💙
