At Melbourne Veterinary Specialist Centre we are committed to providing your pet with the highest quality specialist veterinary treatment available. Established in 1999, the Melbourne Veterinary Specialist Centre (MVSC) is one of our nation's leading providers of advanced multidisciplinary medical services for animals. The Centre aims to provide clients, patients and referring veterinarians with the best integrated veterinary care available, within the one complex. As a Centre of Excellence, our specialists are committed to employing evidence-based practice to ensure animals receive medical care comparable to that of human medicine. The Centre’s collaborative approach to care draws upon the extensive skills of its specialists within the areas of internal medicine, surgery, dermatology, oncology and behavioural medicine. The Centre also has Victoria’s only combined medical and surgical oncology team onsite, with full internal medicine support to address a range of conditions often associated with cancer. Staff at MVSC understand and value the bond between clients and their pets. We aim to always cater to the emotional needs of clients, while keeping in mind the medical needs of their pets. We aspire to provide the best care to help pets live healthier, happier lives. As referral medicine providers, we maintain a strong relationship between the client, patient, and referring veterinarian. We discuss the diagnostic and treatment options available with our client to enable them to make an informed choice regarding their pet’s treatment. MVSC is located in two central Melbourne locations to serve our clients better; Our main centre is in Glen Waverley, with specialist services also available at our Essendon Fields centre at Essendon Airport.

Warm weather can place extra demands on the breathing of brachycephalic dogs.

Because these breeds already have narrower airways, heat and humidity can make it harder for them to cool themselves and move air effectively.

Being aware of subtle changes, such as increased noise, effort, or fatigue, is an important part of caring for these dogs.

If you’re unsure what you’re seeing, a calm, obligation-free conversation can help clarify what’s normal and what’s not.

You’re welcome to email Arthur at arthur@drarthurhouse.com.au with any questions.

💙 Protein-Losing Enteropathy (PLE) 💙
Weston came in with ongoing gut issues, weight loss and very low blood protein levels — all red flags for Protein‑Losing Enteropathy (PLE).

🔍 What we did:
• Ultrasound showed abnormal small‑intestinal changes
• Endoscopy + biopsies taken from the stomach & duodenum
• Full bloodwork run to rule out other causes
🧫 What we found:
• Stomach: mild inflammation
• Duodenum: moderate chronic inflammatory enteropathy
• No infection + no cancer
• Bloods confirmed severe protein loss
📋 What it all means:
These changes fit with PLE due to chronic inflammatory enteropathy, a condition where the gut becomes inflamed and starts losing protein.
💊 Treatment plan:
• Hypoallergenic diet
• Anti‑inflammatory medication (prednisolone)
• Blood‑thinner to reduce clot risk (important in PLE)

We’ll be monitoring closely with follow‑up bloodwork to track improvement. 🐾💛
